I know I've got my judgy pants on, but am I allowed a little bit or should I take them off immediately?

A friend of a friend on Facebook posted a photo of her ten week old 'enjoying chocolate cake with Nanny'. (I think it came up on my News Feed because the mutual friend commented on it or something) The picture was of chocolate cake smeared all across the face of this teeny little baby, and 'Nanny' was pushing some more cake into Baby's mouth.

AIBU to think that baby rice at ten weeks is bad enough, but that chocolate cake is, quite frankly, fecking ridiculous?

A friend is a paediatrician and had to treat a 4 week old baby that eventually had to have an operation because he had been fed sausage and mash. He had swallowed a whole piece of sausage and it had damaged his colon.
The advice is always changing though, when I had mine I weaned about 16 weeks on rice/puree etc. Ds wouldn't have made it any longer, he was already downing 2 bottles of hungry baby milk, I'd had to give up Bf as I couldn't cope with his demands Grin. He's a skinny thing now he's 5.

SnakePlisskensMum that's a terrible story :(

CarefullyAirbrushedPotato · 18/12/2011 20:56

YANBU, that's fairly appalling.

and as a response to suggestions that 'babyrice' and early weaning were/are/will be 'normal' , I would like to point out that being 'normal' does not necessarily make something a good idea.

1944girl-I was born in 1944 too and was weaned on 'boily'-are you from the North East by any chance?

Nor does it make it evil, though CarefullyAirbrushed.

OK I have done some research here and what you see is lots of 'cute' photos of babies eating cake. Now have a closer look and they are all sitting up, and would be about 6 months at least.

If I understand OP correctly I think she is not worried about whether the baby was eating the chocolate, I think OP is more concerned about the baby's mother being insensitive to her baby's needs.
