AIBU to say that 21 years on I still love dh to bits

Sloppy thread but after 23 years together and 21 years of marriage I am so glad I met dh and that we have stuck together through thick and thin and a little bit of heartbreak. There comes a point where you love each other more and more as the years go by and understand each others weaknesses and make allowances and compromises. He knows how to manage me and I know how to manage him. There were difficult days when it might have seemed easier to throw in the towel but dh was always essentially a good man and we are so glad we didn't.

Messed about on here for too long tonight and going up now to snuggle up to the comfy old lump who shares my bed. He will grumble and I will tell him to stop moaning and give me hug.

FreudianSlipper · 13/12/2011 00:02

no not at all its lovely :)

missingmumxox · 13/12/2011 02:01

that is beautiful :) I am only 12 years married and love my lump, I work in a VERY male dominated environment, and thank god every day he had a brilliant mum and dad, who made him and his brothers wonderful, I have told them many a time if there was justice in the world every woman/man would be issued a man or lady in their image (in what ever order), I only hope I send my 2 into partnership with the same atributes and in the same manner...unfortunatly I think I may well be the MIL from hell...who will be good enough for my boys? hoping MIl will be around long enough to put me straight :)

yellowraincoat · 13/12/2011 02:05

Bless you, that is great, gives me hope for the future!

BratinghamPalace · 13/12/2011 05:42

YABVU. I was having a fight with my lump, read your post and now will stop the fight and give him a hug. Thank you for that but you made me loose (the battle but you may help me win the war!!)

YANBU, I have been with my husband 25 yrs, married 15 and I still look at him and feel so much love for him.I know we are incredibly fortunate. He is a fantastic father, he is fun, he makes them laugh with the silly things he does and he has a good sense of humour. He is my world, my family are my world.
Lovely to see a thread like this on here.

maras2 · 13/12/2011 08:10

My comfy old lump has just retired so we have lots of cuddly lie ins. It's wonderfull on these cold and wet mornings. The only reaso that we're up now is because the builders are coming. My lovely DH.of 36 years is downstairs making my toast and coffee for the N'th time.I still so love him.

MyBestBauble · 13/12/2011 08:11

What a lovely post Xmas Smile I hope to feel the same way in 15 years time!

slavetofilofax · 13/12/2011 08:16

Ahhh Xmas Smile It's lovely that you really treasure what you have and realise how lucky you are.

I have only been with dh for four years, married for three, and if I get to still be sharing life with him after 23 years, I will think myself very very lucky.

aldiwhore · 13/12/2011 08:25

YANBU... at all! I think that sometimes it can appear on here that all men are twats and all marriages unhappy. So for pure balance, YANBU!

angelpuss · 13/12/2011 08:44

Robins · 13/12/2011 10:51

I adore my husband after 18 years and we still fancy each other like mad. It is great when it works, without sounding smug. Perhaps luck plays a part meeting the right one!

OldeChestnut · 13/12/2011 10:52

There comes a point where you love each other more and more as the years go by

agree with this, and would add that sometimes it takes years to realise that you love someone more than you did 10 years ago - if that makes sense

30 years with mine here

Robins · 13/12/2011 10:53

PS and it's a second marriage for him too, divorced with two primary school age kids when we met, so that can work too!

ReindeerBollocks · 13/12/2011 10:55

That is so lovely and refreshing to read. Makes a change and I hope you have a wonderful anniversary OP (away from MN Xmas Wink)

valiumredhead · 13/12/2011 11:08

I have been with my dh 21 years too - I love him loads more now than when we were first together.
