To be going quietly batshit over my Ebay listing? Hold my hand you bastards!

Honestly, the tension is appalling. I am selling a valuable Thing on Ebay and desperately need it to make a big pot of money, it is still sitting on its starting price with one bid and twenty four watchers. It's got to go for more than the starting price now, hasn't it?

When does it finish?

And do you have a decent reserve price on it?

IME of ebay, people increasingly wait until the last possible moment to bid.

aleene · 10/12/2011 00:44

How long to wait? Do not worry, the bids will come at the last gasp.

Feminine · 10/12/2011 00:44

I hope/bet all those watchers will pop out at the last minute!Wink

tethersjinglebellend · 10/12/2011 00:44

Think of the snipers. 24 watchers is good.

I am really curious as to what it is, though... would you consider PMing me? I promise not to bid, am broke Grin

It finishes around this time tomorrow. Starting price is £100 and someone has bid that... I have a Buy It Now price of £1000 (did a lot of hunting and price comparing before listing, some people were asking £3000 or so for similar but didn't appear to be getting it).

squeakytoy · 10/12/2011 01:12

24 watchers pretty much guarantees you will get a last minute flurry of bids, how long left to go?

squeakytoy · 10/12/2011 01:13

ah cross posted.. see I find that having a BIN puts people off sometimes.. better to have a hidden reserve.

Too late to stick a hidden reserve on now I think Xmas Sad. Still, someone told me last year that the most I would ever get for such a thing would be about £30, so I should count my blessings that I'm going to get at least a ton for it. It's a Precious Thing but, well, maybe a bit niche.

OP posts:
SolidGoldVampireBat · 10/12/2011 01:22

And 8 of the watchers began watching after the first bid was placed, so they can't be expecting to get it for £100, they must be prepared to bid a bit more.

I hate reserve price. You've done the right thing. Better to have a low start price and hook the buyers in. You will get the best result I'm sure. Though may be a bit nail biting for you in final 30 secs. Good luck!

Bogeyface · 10/12/2011 01:31

I listed an item that was worth precisely nothing!

I listed it as scrap as I had been informed that to fix it would cost more than a new one. I figured that even if I only got the 99p start price, it would save me a trip to the tip.

It went for £25, more than it would make as scrap! But that didnt happen until the last 10 minutes. I wouldnt pull it, most people make their bids in the last half hour or so in the hopes that they will snipe it and bag a bargain. I am willing to bet my knackered tumble drier money that the price will sky rocket tomorrow evening.

What are you selling [nosey emoticon] ?

SolidGoldVampireBat · 10/12/2011 01:37

It's a Precious Thing, but also of a moderately contentious nature (perfectly legal, just... some people get funny about such stuff) and not in the mood to get my arse kicked.

If you really want something on ebay you have to wait for the last few minutes. I watched something for several days and rushed home to be in in time to bid this evening. Although I was the only one who bid on it in the end.. You really never know what is going to happen...

UserNameNotAvailable · 10/12/2011 01:39

For any fellow snipers I use gixen which is an automatic bidding system. You don't even have to be logged in/at the computer to bid. No more missed items.
Oh and numbers of watchers mean sweet f.a ime. We had 35 watchers on one for the auctions and no bids. Hope you sell for the price you want.

I use auctionstealer too, I am a bugger for forgetting an item is due to finish until half an hour after it has finished :o

TotemPole · 10/12/2011 03:43

Some of the watchers will have one the same/simlar to sell. Probably some of those that listed at £3000 and didn't sell.

Some will just have an interest with no intention of bidding.

Hopefully some want it and will bid before the end.

It's possible the first bid is higher than £100, but it won't be pushed up until someone else bids.

When you sell don't forget to send by special delivery and insured for the sale amount.

TotemPole · 10/12/2011 03:44

Didn't the BIN for £1000 disappear at the first bid, or have they changed that on ebay?
