To be going quietly batshit over my Ebay listing? Hold my hand you bastards!

Honestly, the tension is appalling. I am selling a valuable Thing on Ebay and desperately need it to make a big pot of money, it is still sitting on its starting price with one bid and twenty four watchers. It's got to go for more than the starting price now, hasn't it?

OP posts:
Marne · 10/12/2011 12:38

I would take it off if it was me. You should have just listed it as BIN, its too risky listing something expensive on a auction.

Marne · 10/12/2011 12:39

oops, just seen its a fur coat, have you thought of taking it to a vintage clothes shop?

FabbyChic · 10/12/2011 12:40

Yuk fur.

She cannot revise the listing as it has bids now.

LEttletownofBOFlehem · 10/12/2011 12:41

Good point about the measurements etc. I would want more detail too, for a high value item.

Bloodymary · 10/12/2011 12:51

Oh it is a beautiful coat. I really hope you get a good price for it.

kedge · 10/12/2011 18:50

I would have taken this to a vintage shop or specialist auction as this type of coat is too good for ebay - unless you have set a reserve at the lowest price you are willing to accept. The quality of materials and cut of garments from when this coat was made is far better than you would buy now, so worth taking it somewhere where you would have got a better price for it and its true value would have been recognised. Sorry!

Bogeyface · 10/12/2011 20:16

Yuk, fur

How is that helpful?!

It was of its time, bought when fur was the last word in "I am considddderably richer than yaaaaaoooouuuuuu" and some people like vintage items. It isnt like the OP popped out last week, killed a selection of animals and then made a coat with them!

Bogeyface · 10/12/2011 20:17

You can still pull the item as "not available for sale", and follow Kedges advice. Thats what I would do. The completed listings show that they either dont sell or dont sell for much.

Tonksforthememories · 10/12/2011 20:26

I've pulled an item when it had bids before, sold it privately instead. Is there a vintage clothing store near you that could sell it on your behalf?

Bogeyface · 10/12/2011 20:38

Tonks, I have done that too. Its perfectly legit.

I had to do it once when a childs clothing item I was washing in preparation for sending (it had bids) went in the wrong wash and got ruined.

WhoopsyLa · 10/12/2011 20:43

Lovely coat...I think...as a seller of vintage clthes myself...that you ought to have photographed the armpits so people can see the damage...also best not to put anything in description that makes you sound anything less than an expert...so the ""apparently" would have been better left out.

If it doesn't look as if it will go for a good price just pull it and relist at a later date...with more pics, a reserve and a better description.

SolidGoldStockingFilla · 10/12/2011 20:56

It's now at 105 with buyers asking questions (wibble).
I'm quite aware that some people don't like fur, that's there business. As far as I'm concerned, not only is the original owner, my gran, long dead, but I expect that the people who bred, shot and skinned the minks are long dead too.

WhoopsyLa · 10/12/2011 23:42

What did it go for in the end?

TiaMariaandDietCoke · 10/12/2011 23:44

you should post the answers to any questions on the listing - you may get additional bids if the answers would reassure bidders re condition of the coat etc - good luck :)

TiaMariaandDietCoke · 10/12/2011 23:45

whoopsy - if I've got the right auction, its got about 45 mins still to go

WhoopsyLa · 10/12/2011 23:47

Ah! Thanks...

It's ending very late at night, which can't help.

befuzzled · 11/12/2011 00:24

dumb question - where do you set that completed listings thing in ebay?

JaneFonda · 11/12/2011 00:29

My fingers are crossed for you! :)

befuzzled, on the left hand side, towards the bottom, it has an option to 'show only' : and then click 'completed listings'.

JaneFonda · 11/12/2011 00:32

p.s. OP - if your coat has just finished now - yay! I watched it in the last minute and it was creeping up gradually...

Northernlurker · 11/12/2011 00:33

I think that must be it - I had a look too - big improvement though I guess not as much as the OP hoped.

befuzzled · 11/12/2011 00:34

thanks, what did it go for in the end?

Woohoo! £171, leapt up from £107 in the last three minutes. And a couple of other things that were selling got snipered up a few more quid as well. That will get the bloody bailiff out of my hair Xmas Grin.
