To not want to eat a full turkey dinner with all the trimmings two days in a row?

My BIL has declared he is always going to spend Christmas day with his GF. PIL seem fine with this and have said they would rather we go boxing day every year so they can have the whole family together on one day. Fine, we are happy to do that.

The problem is BIL's GF family are all vegetarians so he has to eat nut roast Christmas day (his choice). However PIL feel sorry for him, so do a Christmas day dinner on boxing day, massive turkey all the trimmings etc. etc.

However, we have a big turkey Christmas day with my family and the last thing I feel like doing boxing day is eating it all again. I get really panicked when I feel like I'm force feeding myself and it was awful last year trying to get this dinner down me.

I know this is exceeding ungrateful and I'm lucky to be getting two fine meals in a row, so AIBU to be dreading day two of turkey already??

Fellatio.... I wonder that too... My mother used to get 'capon' as nobody 'liked' turkey. It tasted the same to me!

Eat duck/pork/beef/goose/chicken/lamb/anything that isn't turkey on Xmas day. Sorted.

Soups · 08/12/2011 10:04

yanbu

I wouldn't jumping for joy if I had to sit down for the same big celebration meal two days running. Obviously I'd enjoy the company and appreciate the effort but would inwardly groan. I assume that he hasn't demanded another full on sit down meal and it's coming from the pil's? He may be perfectly happy with Boxing Day leftovers and buffet. I wonder if your pil's are having something else on xmas day and saving the roast for Boxing Day. Sounds like one of those situations where you have a moan beforehand, then put on smile before you go.

Agree with letmehelp, this is a perfectly valid aibu, not all posts have to be about major issues. If someone posts a more trivial aibu, it's highly likely they're not sobbing themselves to sleep about it, it's chat.

moanymandy · 08/12/2011 10:06

YABU I do this every other year and love it! Plus my MIL is a better cook than my mother (sshhh!) so I would be disappointed if I didn't have her dinner on boxing day!

QuintessentiallyFestive · 08/12/2011 10:07

Yanbu. But I dont think there is much you can do, aside from

a) not eat so much
b) bring your own massive smoked salmon and eat that with turkey trimmings! Grin

23balloons · 08/12/2011 10:11

Sorry I think YABU and sounds like you have food issues? Just say you are happy to go but don't fancy a huge lunch. I personally hate roast dinners but I wouldn't waste a minute thinking about it. I would just have a very small portion, surely the family get together is what it is all about.

mrsjay · 08/12/2011 10:11

YUBU a little bit , when my MIl was alive we did this every year as we alternated where we had xmas day , Its turkey dinner you dont need to eat alot if you dont want too , although i love xmas dinner so i could eat it to days in a row Xmas Grin

susiedaisy · 08/12/2011 10:22

Turkey and chicken smell and taste very different, luckily I like bothGrin

GwendolineMaryLacedwithBrandy · 08/12/2011 10:24

I can't see a problem. Eat what you would usually eat on The Day, then either have a little bit of meat and some veg the next day or bring yourself a salmon fillet and steam it in the microwave for 2 mins and have that instead. Not worth the high drama.

Much as I love a Christmas dinner, it's all about the company not what you're eating really.

RockingBEYONDtheXmasTree · 08/12/2011 10:33

I dont like turkey, though I love chicken? Xmas Confused
Not roast anyway, but I'll eat it in curries or whatever.
I do eat it Xmas day though Xmas Smile

FreakoidOrganisoid · 08/12/2011 10:41

Turkey tastes very different to chicken imo

Surely the vegetarian gf won't be eating turkey on boxing day though, so just ask for none on your plate too. The rest is just roasties and veg and can't imagine many people not wanting to eat roast potatoes two days running!

MollyTheMole · 08/12/2011 10:49

yabu i could eat crimbo dinner every day

mmmmmmmmroasties

MillyR · 08/12/2011 10:51

My children have to eat Christmas dinner four days running at four different houses. They don't seem to mind.

GwendolineMaryLacedwithBrandy · 08/12/2011 10:53

Actually, thinking about it, I've asked for Christmas dinner 2 days running as well. Going to PIL for the first time ever Christmas day and my mum is doing me round 2 on boxing day in case MIL's isn't up to scratch [hwink]

GwendolineMaryLacedwithBrandy · 08/12/2011 10:53

Sod it. Xmas Wink

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 08/12/2011 10:53

I would happily eat Christmas dinner every day for a week.

Lightofthemoon · 08/12/2011 10:56

Right there is only one thing for it, to get in some turkey eating training in the run up to Christmas! Then I can be as mighty as you super-turkey eaters and do a marathon of turkey dinners and still be begging for more.

Wow - people are being mean to you on this thread Xmas Smile.

I agree with you, I am quite discerning Xmas Grin about what I eat and I never like to have the same meal two days in a row - however nice the food is !

As everyone has said, you will just have to eat smaller portions both days.

WorraLiberty · 08/12/2011 11:03

Why don't you have a different meat on Xmas day?

mnistooaddictive · 08/12/2011 11:11

Family is all about compromise and not always getting your own way. My family mean more to me than what I eat. Feel sorry for you that this is not the case for you.

DaisySteiner · 08/12/2011 11:16

YANBU I wouldn't be keen either. I'd be more bothered about the inflexibility of being told to come on a particular day every year just because BIL wants to go to his GF's for xmas day.

kingprawntikka · 08/12/2011 11:24

I have sent you a PM.

samandi · 08/12/2011 11:38

YABU and sound a bit like a drama queen.

samandi · 08/12/2011 11:39

My BIL has declared he is always going to spend Christmas day with his GF.

Missed this bit. It's completely unreasonable to spend every year at PIL, they should take it in turns.
