MIL is obsessed about telling me my baby has wind or needs a feed and then commenting that I'm still learning about DC's signals.

This happened again when DC was bringing back milk (full!) and rubbing already red eyes ... therefore obviously tired.

Do all parents/inlaws have this obsession? Why can't the little mites just be left alone to go to sleep?

Just ignore. My mil i conviced that all babies have trapped wind pretty much all the time. Any movement and its "she full of wind you know" Grin. she means no harm.

thanks for the words of wisdom StrandedUnderTheMisltoe!

I left DC to cry (scream the place down!) for a little while ... then put down to sleep and tadah ... I was right!

I shall do what I want anyway from now on Grin hehehe

Poor things - I'd be gutted if I was told I had wind everytime I felt grumpy.

Now full of hot air ... that's another matter Wink

My MIL from my first marriage used to drive me mad when DD1 was a baby, insisting that "she had wind" when she was hungry. I would be sitting there ready to feed her as I knew she was hungry and MIL would be parading round with her frantically trying to get the imaginary wind up. I ended up snapping at her "It is NOT wind, can you pass her here so that I can feed her"

She also used to start to say something then say "No, it's none of my business". She was actually really annoying in many many ways and I'm glad she is now an ex MIL!!

Pandemoniaa · 07/12/2011 17:58

I don't think all MILs are obsessed with wind! In fact I never mentioned it when dgd was a tiny baby. Mainly, I suspect, because my own (ex) MIL never stopped going on about it!

You know your own baby. Just smile and ignore her.

It's what MIL's do, get your own back like I did by having more kids than her - now who's the expert!! :)

My nan also went on and on when my 2 eldest were babies about how crying strengthened their lungs. Arrggghhh

My MIL is lovely, only ever had the one child herself and defers to my judgement pretty well. My mother on the other hand seems absolutely convinced that I am going to kill my DC due to ineptitude any second now and always comes to visit loaded down with gripe water (which we use) and homeopathic medicine which she swears is better than doctors (no, mum, no it is not.) Every time I turn my back she is trying to dose my children with aconite or belladonna or something else.

My MIL is obsessed with wind, but is slightly scared of me (I didn't encourage that deliberately, honestly! I actually quite like her) and so gets DH to say it to me.
