www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/woman/3979976/Im-spending-3200-on-Christmas-its-paid-for-by-my-benefits.html

Right this is not really about the benefits per say more to do with WHY do these people allow their families to apper in the paper wether your to the right or to the left.

I wouldn't say boasting about how much money you get is tackey even more so if yu not earned it, also why we get so pissed off with bankers

So my question what type of a person puts themselves up for a interview like this ??

I often wonder why these people with lots of kids think they will get out of doing these kind of interviews unless they either want to piss the tax payers off, give geuine claminets a bad name or really are proud of their life style.

Siobhan's sons have all written their Christmas lists and the single mum admits she can never say "no

I would love to see what the 7 month old has written... Grin

And I cant see that the 3yo is going to have been reading the Argos catalogue either...

MartyrStewart · 07/12/2011 00:41

Why would you do this? To pay off the debt you racked up last Christmas, probably. Poor girl is heading for a fall.

DignitasVouchersForChristmas · 07/12/2011 01:12

what makes you think she is not a 'geuine claminet'?

DignitasVouchersForChristmas · 07/12/2011 01:14

and why would you do this: ????? when one is plenty?

DignitasVouchersForChristmas · 07/12/2011 01:14

(please ignore me, I seem to be in a horrible mood. Sorry)

VelcroFanjo · 07/12/2011 01:20

This is just another tabloid attempt to show the benefits culture to it's worst effect. I was on benefits this time last year, with DP and 4 kids. I struggled to save enough to buy anything..and as benefits only cover the bills without pennypinching, would have never been able to pay off debts if I had incerred them. She is stupid not an example of how benefits can keep someone in this lifestyle. She even says some people on benefits have gone bankrupt, I'm guessing she'll be next!

VelcroFanjo · 07/12/2011 01:20

Duh..incurred

VelcroFanjo · 07/12/2011 01:21

As for why..I'm guessing she has been paid for this article and half of it will be a fabrication to make a good story!

TotemPole · 07/12/2011 01:32

They'll pay for the interview won't they?

TotemPole · 07/12/2011 01:34

Oops cross posted with velcro.

I agree that there is probably some creative journalism going on there.

The main article says shes on JSA, she won't be she'll be on IS. It does mention IS and CTC, in the summary on the right.

AmberLeaf · 07/12/2011 03:05

I saved a little and borrowed £1,500 on credit I still owe £1,100 of what I borrowed but it doesn't matter. If I had a job or not, I'd still be in debt

I plan to do the same this year. I have been saving some of my benefits ? around £10 to £20 a week ? for months and will pay for the rest on credit

Stupid misleading article anyway, her benefits are not paying for her £3200 christmas, she is taking out loans and getting stuff on credit.

Her benefits arent paying for it as she hasnt even paid for last years loan!

I bet that she was lead to believe the article was going to have a very different slant and quite possibly about something else.

YABU for reading the Sun though

coccyx · 07/12/2011 03:44

Silly moo.

Shinyshoes1 · 07/12/2011 03:48

Sorry to piss on your bonfire but I know someone who can afford this kind of money for Christmas she's on benefits, has the same 'why should I work for LESS money' attitude, and has just bought her son a pair of Nike Air Force trainers

They may seem few and far between but they are out there

AmberLeaf · 07/12/2011 04:05

You can not afford to spend £3200 on christmas if you are a lone parent of 3 children on benefits.

No way.

Shineyshoes if you know someone on benefits that spends that much they are getting the money from somewhere else or getting it on credit.

It is not possible to do this on benefits unless you dont eat or pay bills for several months.

CheerfulYank · 07/12/2011 04:20

What kind of five or three year old knows what kind of trainers another kid has? Shock

FGS. My four and a half year old is getting some board games, books, new pajamas, and a few action figures. My ILS will get him some toys and art supplies. WTF?! Why would you buy your very small child electronic crap and designer clothes?

Never. Even if I win the lottery. Nope, never.

CheerfulYank · 07/12/2011 04:37

Those boys are adorable little things though, aren't they?

ProjectGainsborough · 07/12/2011 05:08

WHY did I click on a link to a Sun article? Why?

It's just hate-mongering, isn't it - getting everyone to eye their neighbour suspiciously in a shitty economic climate.

Silly woman, though. Surely the money could have been put to better use...

MissMogwi · 07/12/2011 05:15

The last line sums it up for me-"It's the best of both worlds and will mean we will have a very happy Christmas"

This smacks of creative journalism to me, designed to widen the gulf between those on benefits and those who work. Even with credit I find it very hard to believe anyone on benefits spends £3200 at Xmas. Or even working!

What made me chuckle was the £400 she allegedly spends on herself, call me cynical but I suspect some 'embroidery of the truth' there Xmas Grin

headinhands · 07/12/2011 05:36

The Sun wouldn't have said 'We want to do a story which taps into the hatred some of our society have for the likes of you'' of course not. As for mother who just bought her son Nikes, catalogue maybe, or saved shock horror. I was on IS for a few years and it's pretty much hand to mouth.

PontyMython · 07/12/2011 06:14

What cheerful yank said. Why would you get an Xbox and a wii in the same year? Even if I was rich I wouldn't spend £500 on each of my 2.

I agree that the article was probably totally different than what she expected.

LouisPasteur · 07/12/2011 06:21

Why even read The Sun? Why bother?

Shit-stirring, point-scoring and inflammatory. Who knows if she is a genuine claimant or not?

We don't see the nameless, faceless bankers, who have cost our country BILLIONS and brought yet another economic slide on our heads on the pages of The Sun, or the Daily Mail for that matter (I put these on the same level playing field, by the way). Nope.

Easier to pick on the vulnerable and gullible and to draw attention away from the real fucking thieves in this country.

I seriously wouldn't wipe my bottom with this paper.

LouisPasteur · 07/12/2011 06:25

Poor girl was probably expecting to be praised for spending so much on her kids; as if spending more should equate to loving your children more. Foolish girl perhaps, but The Sun are parasites, feeding off the hatred in our country.

Bastards. Hate The Sun. Hate all Tabloids. They have zero conscience. She may have been paid a meager handsome little package for this, but it won't protect her from the stick she's going to cop for it.

LouisPasteur · 07/12/2011 06:27

And you're all falling for it. The benefits bashing is starting even now on this thread. It has raised questions in your mind about her credibility. About her motivations.

LouisPasteur · 07/12/2011 06:27

Crikey. I need some cammomile tea.
