to expect Argos not to change their price promise before it has expired?

Short story: I'm keeping an eye on the prices of the expensive (but much desired by my DP) Lego Mindstorm computerised kit. Until recently it has been £189.99 on their site with the small print at the bottom of the webpage saying that the price was guaranteed until mid Jan. Unfortunately I didn't take a page shot for proof as today I went to their site and found that the price has shot up to £240 with a new price promise valid until sometime this month.

Grrrrr.

I was planning on purchasing it in Jan after the mad Christmas present rush had finished and in time for his birthday. Not likely at that price.

Surely their price promise shouldn't have been replaced by another price before it had expired?

I've emailed them and await their reply.

What, this ?

or if you prefer, Amazon

If you can, just buy it now. You'll kick yourself if you don't.

A really good thing to do with Argos is reserve for store pick up that way they honour the reserved price and you can just let it lapse if you don't want it in the end. I did it with a buggy and saved over £80 when I went to the till they tried to get me to pay full price, luckily I could show them an email. They're buggers!

Good idea tired. I've reserved things in the past and then gone the next day to find it is at a different price. They've checked on their system and honoured the original price.

Vivi....the prob with my OH is that he is one of those sods individuals that just go out and buy what they want for themselves regardless of upcoming events like birthday and Christmas. I'm tempted. Play and Amazon have had them at that price as of today so I'm going to have to suck it up and buy it and hope he doesn't treat himself in the meantime and spoil the surprise, or play the waiting game.

Annoyingly the set was down to £164 at amazon recently and I didn't buy it so am kicking myself anyway.
