Oh god, I'm not even going to look at that properly!

YABso so so U for sharing that!

IvyAndGold · 06/12/2011 13:40

Don't even get me started. This is the only tab out of about 15 that I have open that isn't Pinterest...

brookeslay · 06/12/2011 13:41

I joined pininterest about 3/4 weeks ago. Long time in the pin world. Yes I love the phrase pure internet smack.

The only annoying thing is when I forgot to like a pin and I cant`t remember who pinned it. I found a funny print it was something like be nice by order signed rob ryan.. Think I can locate it ?? noooo... so advice pin it quickly ( you can always delete later if you go off it)

diddl · 06/12/2011 13:42

I don´t get it tbh.

Looks far too schmalzy for me.

swanfall · 06/12/2011 13:42

Vivi's right, but even if you do need a facebook account you can unlink it from your Pinterest account as soon as you join.

Sorry FolkGirl!

I love most of it but some of it is horrifyingly twee.

I can't stick the 'motivational' body fascist fitness pins and I'd rather not see the religious stuff on there, so I don't go on there much any more.

swanfall · 06/12/2011 13:44

diddl It depends who you follow and what kind of things you like to look at! But it is heavily biased towards girly stuff, crafts and interiors, you're right.

Its as schmaltzy as you make it diddl - while you can repin from other members, its more about the images YOU find on the wider internet.

Sometimes, particularly with home bits n' pieces, pinning is almost as good as having. It curbs my compulsion to accumulate lovely things. Although that logic has failed spectacularly with my Christmas board...

swanfall · 06/12/2011 13:47

thousandDenier I completely agree, there are some very vomitous religious 'quotes' on there that make my eyes bleed, and all the weightloss stuff is just awful. But those things are easy enough to avoid/skim over, I find.

And you just need to follow the right people to escape the twee!

OP posts:
overmydeadbody · 06/12/2011 13:48

ThousandDenier I don't see any hpyscial stuff or religious stuff, I just see my board, the boards of the pinners I follow, and anything I speciafically search for. At the moment I am searching for wrapped presents, so that is all I'm getting.

I am permenantly logged in though. Perhaps if you are not logged in you see that random stuff?

And I pin from the web onto pinterest. The more people that do this with vareid tastes the less twee and girlie it will be. It is a product of the people using it.

ViviPrudolf · 06/12/2011 13:48

I don't tend to browse the site much, rather used it as a place to store aesthetic inspirations.

nevergoogle · 06/12/2011 13:48

i have a board that has all my dresses and shoes on it.
they are infact all in a box still packed from moving house.
very silly but fun for putting outfits together.
it was supposed to stop me from going shopping. Hmm

ViviPrudolf · 06/12/2011 13:49

if you click on 'everything' then you see all the twee/irrelevant/random stuff, but I just have a feed of 'pinboards I follow'

ATruthFestivelyAcknowledged · 06/12/2011 13:51

Thanks for the invite OverMyDeadBody

Now, before I make the same faux pas as I made when I joined here (I temporarily had a username with my name and numbers in it), what 'rules' do I need to know? E.g. should my username be my actual name a la Facebook or something witty?

TheRepublicOfDreams · 06/12/2011 13:53

Is there a mobile app?

ViviPrudolf · 06/12/2011 13:54

Its weird with names, my board has my username as a suffix, but all of my activity shows my real name - I'm not quite sure how that came about/if it can be avoided....

swanfall · 06/12/2011 13:55

ATruth It seems to be about 50/50 whether people use their real names or not. I don't use mine, but just out of habit as it feels weird to have my real name accessible to the whole world. Esp as I have an unusual name so people would instantly know who I was by googling.

OP posts:
swanfall · 06/12/2011 13:57

At least, I don't think my real name is showing .

ViviPru, you looked at my boards didn't you? Was there anything resembling a real name there??

theladylovescupcakes · 06/12/2011 13:57

I LOVE pinterest! Can waste hours on it. Although I also requested to join and heard nothing back. I'll try and PM you Viviprudolf, if you don't mind?

WhoopsyLa · 06/12/2011 13:58

Overmydeadbody I have messaged you about aan invitaion if you have time please....I am giving in to Pinterest! I have seen lots of posts on MN about it but so far resisted....I just got sucked in by all the vintage christmas decorations!

ViviPrudolf · 06/12/2011 13:58

There is a mobile app but they haven't built the 'pin' function for iphone yet, (on 'proper internet' you install a 'pin' to your bookmark bar below the web address in your browser which facilitates the 'pinning')

There is a workaround so you can pin things when browsing other sites on your iphone but it involves copying and pasting HTML codes into your bookmarks folder on Safari. I've done quite a bit of web coding and I also have dexterous fingers, and I found it tricksy. Its possible though and the instructions are on the full site.

MinnieBar · 06/12/2011 13:58

I love it, once you ignore the fortunately quite few 'God loves you every day' pins and all the 'thinspiration' shite, there's a lot of fab stuff on there. Yes, arguably just pinning 'stuff you like' can potentially run a bit thin after a few weeks, (although I'd argue a strong case for having pictures of great things that make you feel happy all in one place) but I've found it brilliant for inspiration for doing after-school easy craft stuff with the DCs. And I found a great knitting pattern for bootees.

Last week we made some snow play-dough, I made two advent calendars, we've done the melty-crayon picture thing (they LOVED that), later this week we're going to make paper plate reindeer pictures... I struggle often sometimes to know what the hell to do with them some afternoons, and Pinterest really helps.

This is me and I'm now following you overmydeadbody! I couldn't give a rat's arse how many people follow me tbh and I seem to be following some people that I don't remember clicking on, but since I mostly just go to 'Everything' or 'Kids' or 'Crafts' it doesn't matter.

This is by far my most re-pinned pin. I have no idea why, but it gets repinned about 5/6 times a day.

lucysnowe · 06/12/2011 13:59

Ye gods. it looks fucking horrid

poorbuthappy · 06/12/2011 14:00

I still can't pin off my phone which annoys the hell out of me. I've got the bookmarklett etc but it just won't work Sad
