Rant begins. Have woken up a bit angry this morning about the above. The man that hosted the Beyonce show just went on about her "arse" when she said "eyes" and just basically hinted at sexual stuff the whole time. I wanted to punch him. Why?? Because she's beautiful and therefore that makes him think about sex?

Also an R&B video I saw yesterday where the men were fully clothed in respectable suits while the women were writhing all over the place in skimpy underwear kissing each other and whips etc. The men were just touching them up randomly.

I hate it. Is it any wonder women are abused and used and treated like shit.

Not sure where this has come from so apologies in advance for the angry tone.

Rant over!

YANBU if you're saying that music videos in general are degrading to women. They're basically soft porn aimed at teenagers. Some of it isn't that soft either.

Pedallleur · 06/12/2011 12:35

Music promos. generally put out by male artists are like that. Good job you haven't seen the Snoop Dogg vid where he swipes his credit card between the girls butt-cheeks. It's the easy win. These artists promote themselves as Laydeez Men, doesn't matter whether it's 50 Cent or Whitesnake. They get airtime etc. It really doesn't do much for women and girls tho who are pigeonholed into conforming with the images shown, generally of writhing 'available' women

Diamondback · 06/12/2011 12:44

Actually, Beyonce herself annoys me, ever since the 'Crazy in Love' video where she's basically writhing all over Jay-Z as if she's his back-up dancer - INSTEAD OF THE FRICKING STAR OF THE SHOW! Independent Woman my arse. Hmph!

Esta3GG · 06/12/2011 12:47

I come from a generation that revered Patti Smith and Chrissie Hynde so I can't abide this crap anyway.
Anyone seen the delightful Katy Perry vid where she squirts cream out of her tits all over that noted women's rights activist SnoopDogg?
Shit music. Shit videos.

Pedalleur, no I haven't seen that video with Snoop Dogg and the credit card. Thank God as it would drive me nuts! What message is this giving to men, especially the younger ones who have been brought up on this kind of music video. Women are to be used, are dispensable, they can snog one and then snog another right after. I hate it. Is it any wonder women are still treated badly (not all I know but a fair few) when we are portrayed as "a bit of fun". Aaargh!! I hate it.

Esta, what the hell was the Katy Perry vid all about?

Yeah, can't bear most music videos these days, in fact I avoid the music channels totally. And it's not just the male stars massaging their egos - the female stars buy into this too. Get some clothes on girls for goodness sake, and sell your music instead of your bodies!

KissMyA · 06/12/2011 19:58

Yanbu. I hate that shitwallup

slavetofilofax · 06/12/2011 20:07

Why are you angry with the presenter? Confused

I think it's up to Beyonce if she minds or not, and I'd guess she probably doesn't mind seeing as she has made a very lucrative career out of wiggling her arse while she sings.

Women should be able to make choices for themselves, and if that means dressing themselves up as some kind of sex symbol, then so be it. If people didn't like it, it wouldn't make them money.

StopRainingPlease · 06/12/2011 21:12

slavetofilofax, that's basically the same argument that people use for the existence of Page 3 girls, and it fails for the same reasons.

HecateGoddessOfTwelfthNight · 06/12/2011 21:34

I don't notice many men going round thrusting about half naked, stroking themselves and looking lustily into the camera.

I don't notice very many women with a complete set of clothes on.

yay. female empowerment. Go sisters. Thrust yourselves for the entertainment of men and call it girl power.

Bloody hate it.
