Your not suppose to put them up until 13th for luck. I need luck so I'm waiting. Plus it's ds's 1st birthday next week so don't want it being over shadowed

Up on the first Saturday of December and down on the first Saturday of January.

diddl · 05/12/2011 09:24

I think that the 13th is really early tbh.

Usually Christmas Eve for us.

aldiwhore · 05/12/2011 09:28

Its your house your decorations. I put mine up READY for the first, our Christmas lasts a month and its just how I like it. IANU, and neither is my mate who does hers last thing on Christmas Eve when the children have gone to bed (something quite nice about running downstairs on Christmas morning and your house being utterly transformed!).

If I had a child who's birthday was in December, unless the birthday was Christmas Day I'd probably hold off Christmas until afterwards.

sillybillies · 05/12/2011 09:37

I'm planning to put them up next weekend but I never put them up too early. i'd be happy doing it when the schools break up by DD is already nagging.

There were loads of houses with decorations up in the last week of November. I had a strong urge to knock on their houses and shout Nooooooooooo at them.

Christmas starts in December and anybody who puts their decorations up before then is just wrong (in my book)

aldiwhore · 05/12/2011 09:40

I don't switch the lights on until the first... quite strict about that. I guess I celebrate Advent (in an agnostic way) in my own way.

My absolute pet hate is people who can't be bothered taking the decorations down... my neighbour has their outside decs up ALL FRIGGING YEAR and it looks so forlorn.

SarahBumBarer · 05/12/2011 10:43

YANBU - ours goes up the two Saturdays prior to Christmas so this year on the 17th.

Oh dear Aldi I've just persuaded my DH to have some outdoor lights up for the first time and the only way I could persuade him to put them up is to say that we can just leave them up afterwards for next year so that he does not have to take them down Blush

OhdearNigel · 05/12/2011 11:02

Ours is going up on the 11th - we have a nativity service at church which we are following with going and getting a tree, mulled wine and mince pies at home :) Really looking forward to it

RillaBlythe · 05/12/2011 11:06

Ne'er before my birthday, which is today. Then dp's next day off is 16th Dec, so we will put it up then. Growing up it was generally around 20 something.

JugglingWithGoldandMyrhh · 05/12/2011 11:16

diddl · 05/12/2011 11:23

Happy Birthday RB

It´s snowing here & looks all Christmassy!

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 05/12/2011 11:26

I have never heard of 12 days before, only 12 days after.

Ours will probably go up next weekend.

Our neighbours left their tree up until about March last year Shock it was a real tree too so by the time they put it out it was completely brown. The dustmen never took it away so it is still there outside the house now!
