She eats jam doughnuts in a bowl with hot custard. That's weird right?

Oh my goodness that sounds fantastic and I'd never even thought of it before.

Thats been added to my shopping list for tomorrow and DH and I are going to give it a go.

i eat broken up hob nobs with cold custard. So don't think I could say anything negative about yor DW.

Btw, i use the ready made in a carton sort, not the sort you make from the powder which i've let go cold. That'd be gross - obviously

JjingleBeanplusPudalltheway · 03/12/2011 21:49

I can't decide...?

Hot doughnuts with sugar on are the best.

I feel the only way to figure this out is to try it... "Dp...can you go to sainsburys pleeeeeeeeeeeeease the baby needs doughnuts and custard"

TheGashlycrumbTinies · 03/12/2011 21:49

Freaky McDeaky for sure, custard has no right to be on this Earth, let alone on a jammy doughnut.

FearOfFlying · 03/12/2011 21:51

Sounds yummy - I want to try it but I'm trying to do my pre-Christmas food austerity.

Grumpla · 03/12/2011 21:52

I have no doughnuts. AIBU to make my best friend get out of bed and go and buy me some? We're in a hotel room together and I'm too pregnant to move.

bruffin · 03/12/2011 21:53

I did a first aid training course run by a paramedic.
He was called to house where a teenage boy had microwaved a stale donut to freshen it up. He took a bite and the jam was boiling and basically burned his throat, which swelled up and he diedSad

So please be very careful when microwaving donuts.

DonkeyTeapot · 03/12/2011 21:54

That is absolute genius, and I for one will be buying doughnuts and custard tomorrow.

I imagine you'd have to be careful about microwaving a jam doughnut because jam will get really hot and could burn you badly.

Oooooh. WANT THAT NOW. To do list for tomorrow now looks as follows:

  1. Buy jam doughnuts
  2. Buy custard
  3. Combine custard and doughnut in bowl
  4. microwave
  5. Fall headfirst into bowl.
MissPentChristmasBudget · 03/12/2011 21:56

Yikes bruffin. Sugar does heat up to dangerous temperatures, hotter than water alone.

OP, I think your wife is onto something. I foresee a run on custard and doughnuts in the supermarkets tomorrow.

santastooearlymustdache · 03/12/2011 21:58

she's so so wrong

custard is the work of the devil

OhYouBadBadReindeer · 03/12/2011 22:00

crumbs bruffin, will regard microwaved doughnts with much more caution in future.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 03/12/2011 22:03

I have no doughnuts and no microwave...

My life is empty.

MadamTwoSwords · 03/12/2011 22:07

YANBU I hate custard it's the devils work. Am not too keen on doughnuts either.

However give me a McFlurry and fries to dip in it and I'm there (I know, I know judge away)

dearprudence · 03/12/2011 22:10

Custard is nice but doughnuts are foul. She should have tinned syrup sponge instead.

TheSmallClanger · 03/12/2011 22:13

I don't like jam doughnuts either, come to think of it. Ring dougnuts all the way, safer to reheat and nicer.

SantasStrapon · 03/12/2011 22:17

How can you not like custard? Or doughnuts?

Myhatismadeofjam · 03/12/2011 22:20

Oh my word about the microwaved doughnut Shock

She doesn't heat them and nor she will be allowed to

btw I like custard and doughnuts but not in this combination

OP posts:
WorraLiberty · 03/12/2011 22:21

I don't even like custard but that sounds gorgeous Shock

Onemorning · 03/12/2011 22:24

I said this to DH and he shouted 'Genius!'

And I think it's a top idea, so YABU.

HighHeidYin · 03/12/2011 22:25

My mum used to give us this when we were kids. Who knew she was a culinary genius?!

TheMitfordsMaid · 03/12/2011 22:26

Our 6th form treat used to be a shared bag of Dunkin Donuts dipped in a large tub of ice-cream from the ice-cream parlour next door. Top, top, snack.

KoPo · 03/12/2011 22:28

Your DW is not a freak. SHE IS EATING FREAKING LOVELY FOOD!

Still it is better if the doughnuts are heated up. And if you use apple doughnuts its even better.

MenopausalHaze · 03/12/2011 22:30

Sounds good to me!

I must confess to a Hmm at the McFlurry and chips though -how stoned would you have to be before that was a truly great idea? Grin
