AIBU to think that the government are trying to rob our children?

AIBU for believe that the single parent's in our society are under attack - yet again?

Despite the statistics that show that 3/5 of us residential parents are in receipt of zero child maintenance.

Those who choose to use the CSA to chase non paying parents are now in the firing line..

From 2013
Parents using the CSA will pay £100 as an upfront fee (or £50 for parents on benefit) for those who want to use the future CSA. Only ?Victims of domestic violence? will be exempt (although there is no detail on how this will be proved or checked).

An on-going charge of between 7% and 12% on any maintenance paid to parents who rely on the future CSA to collect their child maintenance, as well as an extra 15-20% charge added to the non-resident parent?s payment.

Isn't this taking food out of my child's mouth?

If someone is good at number crunching can you please let us know, there are people out there that earn those sorts of figures, and it is all information that has not been available and may be usefull later on!

Hunty, thanks for doing all those calculations, it is shocking!

CardyMow · 02/12/2011 23:42

OH BOLLOCKS. My maths was totally wrong for that last post. Blush. I missed a step out.

In my defence, DS3 was trying to BF and waggle his bum in my face at the time.

Will repost correct figures in a second!

PiousPrat · 02/12/2011 23:45

It's probably me, as the calculations I was doing were quick and dirty and based on a standard 20% of NRP wages going to CSA and an average of 10% of that being taken in 'processing fees' but I made it around £230 paid a week, so £23 a week taken by the CSA which is £1,200 a year.

Which is still an absurdly high amount for an ineffective agency but not quite so froth making.

I totally accept that I don't know the finer details of CSA payments though, or if the percentage paid by NRPs goes up when the income does.

planetpotty · 02/12/2011 23:46

Just read through the thread. Now I'm assuming these changes are being made to fund the administration which surely must be a fixed cost let's say

£100 to open and conduct case
£10 monthly for the money going through their account Hmm

If that's what the charge is for surely it should have a capped amount? iYSWIM all this different amount depending on how much the actual sum of maintenance is seems Confused

CardyMow · 02/12/2011 23:48

If the NRP has an income of 60K pa:

Normal, current maintenance for one dc would be £76.92 a week.

Best case under new rules: NRP pays £ more than now. RP receives £ less than now. Government makes £

NRP pays £
RP receives £

Worst case under new rules: NRP pays £ more than now. RP receives £ less than now. Government makes £

NRP pays £
RP receives £

If the NRP is on 60k pa, the Government will be making between £ and £ EVERY WEEK. Which is between £ and £ A YEAR from EACH CHILD.

THAT sounds a bit better, doesn't it. Blush. Still, it is an amazing amount of money to be making out of dc.

Sorry for cocking up, 10mo DS3 is in training for the olympics - gymnastics while BF competition.

CardyMow · 02/12/2011 23:48

OH FFS! I'll try once more, then I'm going for a lie down in a darkened room!!!

TheMouseRanUpTheClock · 02/12/2011 23:49

Confused there are no figures there!

PiousPrat · 02/12/2011 23:50

That sounds great, since you have C&Pd and left the figures blank so it looks like no one takes anything.

Sorry, I'll piss off and leave you to feed in peace now Blush

Kayano · 02/12/2011 23:50

strokes Hunty but we appreciate you x

CardyMow · 03/12/2011 00:00

If the NRP has an income of 60K pa:

Normal, current maintenance for one dc would be £76.92 a week.

Best case under new rules: NRP pays £11.54 more than now. RP receives £5.38 less than now. Government makes £16.92.

NRP pays £88.46
RP receives £71.54

Worst case under new rules: NRP pays £15.38 more than now. RP receives £9.23 less than now. Government makes £24.61

NRP pays £92.30
RP receives £67.69

If the NRP is on 60k pa, the Government will be making between £16.92 and £24.61 EVERY WEEK. Which is between £879.84 and £1,279.72 A YEAR from EACH CHILD.

THAT'S better. (DS3 asleep again!)

I'm going to start a new thread in chat with the PROPER figures in. Once I've done that, I'll come back here and link.

Holy crap. Uneffingbelieveable Shock

And having the CSA funded by 'service' users will save the government what - a couple of million? Counting the cost of them reforming all the systems.

It's not worth it at the expense of the children involved. it's ridiculous in fact.

FROTHING

olakel · 03/12/2011 00:05

The current Government are trying to eliminate the budget deficit and so stop the national debt rising so I don't think it can be said they are stealing from future generations.

WinterIsComing · 03/12/2011 00:05

I admire your patience Hunty and if there were any justice in this world you would make one shit-hot benefits advisor at the very least would also vote for you as PM but with the government we have it seems that the people who are shit-hot on denying vulnerable people are quids in.

Grin at DS3 - he wasn't nibbling cracker crumbs whilst feeding this time then?

TheMouseRanUpTheClock · 03/12/2011 00:06

I am sorry the CSA gave you such a hard time, I am sorry I got you wrong. I was feeling for you again, then you added the exwife refused to work full time. I don't think it was fair what the csa did, especially the CHB and DLA, that is not the exwives fault though.

A lot of powerfull organisations are full of corruption, if there were not about 5% plus of the population that were antisocial personalities, we wouldn't need the CSA in the first place.

TheMouseRanUpTheClock · 03/12/2011 00:09

Have you seen how much the government is giving away in foreign aid to countries that have a space programme and are almost as rich as us, because that country has a cast system and doesn't look after their own, the government are taking from disadvantaged children to contribute towards giving money to a country with that much money?!

My ExH pays £35 per week per teenage DC.

He earns about £40k.

TheMouseRanUpTheClock · 03/12/2011 00:21

You see it as her being spitefull and being all about you, where as someone else may see a Mother returning to full time work coinciding with the child finishing school, that to me says she wanted to work part time until her child finished school, support them through exams etc, lots of people do that, I can't see the problem?

Meglet · 03/12/2011 00:21

Yanbu.

They just think that LP's are an easy target. Well, gobby old me isn't taking it lying down.
