AIBU to think that the government are trying to rob our children?

AIBU for believe that the single parent's in our society are under attack - yet again?

Despite the statistics that show that 3/5 of us residential parents are in receipt of zero child maintenance.

Those who choose to use the CSA to chase non paying parents are now in the firing line..

From 2013
Parents using the CSA will pay £100 as an upfront fee (or £50 for parents on benefit) for those who want to use the future CSA. Only ?Victims of domestic violence? will be exempt (although there is no detail on how this will be proved or checked).

An on-going charge of between 7% and 12% on any maintenance paid to parents who rely on the future CSA to collect their child maintenance, as well as an extra 15-20% charge added to the non-resident parent?s payment.

Isn't this taking food out of my child's mouth?

Fuck - so that would be 5% of the NRP's wages going DIRECT TO THE TREASURY. Shock.

CardyMow · 02/12/2011 23:04

Scrub that last one - numbers going to my head.

Will be back in a minute with figures for an NRP on £40K.

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 02/12/2011 23:05

What's an FoI request, Hunty?

CardyMow · 02/12/2011 23:06

FoI request - Freedom of Information Request.

TheMouseRanUpTheClock · 02/12/2011 23:06

Can you number crunch some more please?

NRP earning £40k pa for one child

NRP earning £60k pa for one child

NRP earning £80k pa for one child

NRP earning £100k pa for one child

Big money making me thinks for the government at the expense of disadvantaged children!

TheMouseRanUpTheClock · 02/12/2011 23:07

YES NRP should be as much up in arms as RP, their child is being taxed big time!

TheMouseRanUpTheClock · 02/12/2011 23:08

How much is the ctc for a single child per annum?

TheMouseRanUpTheClock · 02/12/2011 23:15

Is it £2555 for one child in ctc for a low income lone parent?

Omg. This is horrifying

dancingmustard · 02/12/2011 23:18

Fuck the CSA take a WEEKLY amount Confused

TheMouseRanUpTheClock · 02/12/2011 23:21

£20.30 per week will also go from the resident parents who earn £40k pa, so they will loose £1,055 that way if a lone parent, per child.

TheMouseRanUpTheClock · 02/12/2011 23:22

The £20.30 per week is regarding the loss of child benefit.

TheMouseRanUpTheClock · 02/12/2011 23:24

According to that Gingerbread link, there are about not a good bar chart 23.5% of children in lone parent households aged 0-14 years in 2000. That is a lot of children that are going to be fleeced by the government.

Ah but Hunty, I'm sure the CSA will justify it by saying that the government can't subsidise NRPs making payments anymore by funding the staff to chase it, and for every child that they make a grand a year from or more, there will be another whose NRP is on benefits so paying significantly less, so they are making a loss.

So sorry for all of you who will be subsidising the collection of my £1.65 a week, the poor CSA will only make £9 a year profit from my 2 children so of course someone has to pay to cover the difference. That £100 initial fee will only go so far. Poor CSA. Someone should send them a food parcel...

CardyMow · 02/12/2011 23:30

If the NRP has an income of 60K pa:

Normal, current maintenance for one dc would be £1,153.85 a week.

Best case under new rules: NRP pays £173.08 more than now. RP receives £80.77 less than now. Government makes £253.85.

NRP pays £1326.93
RP receives £1073.08

Worst case under new rules: NRP pays £230.77 more than now. RP receives £138.46 less than now. Government makes £369.23.

NRP pays £1384.62
RP receives £1015.39

If the NRP is on 60k pa, the Government will be making between £253.85 and £369.23 EVERY WEEK. Which is between £13,200.20 and £19,199.96 A YEAR from EACH CHILD.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. So if the NRP is on £60K pa...the Government could make up to as much as £19K pa.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCKKK

WinterIsComing · 02/12/2011 23:30

Strictly speaking it won't be that £20.30 per child Mouse because child benefit isn't as much for subsequent children but it's still shocking and well worth pointing out.

I'm still gob-smacked that the disability element of child tax credits is considered fair game.

TheMouseRanUpTheClock · 02/12/2011 23:30

I thought your post was decent until I read:

I never, ever hid funds from the CSA. We did everything by the letter. We were a bit frightened of doing the wrong thing because it is a Government Dept and DH is in the RAF so we thought he'd get into trouble if we did.

Not because he didn't want his child to have the legal minimum?

TheMouseRanUpTheClock · 02/12/2011 23:32

I see your point re child benefit, I think the figures being crunched are based on each child, on a one child family!

PiousPrat · 02/12/2011 23:35

Hunty are you sure your figures are right for the £60k post? Only that works out at around £55k a year paid by the NRP and almost 1/3 of the NRP's annual wage going to the government alone, which is more than the standard 20% total they should be paying in CSA.

Unless I am reading that wrong, I am shocking for misplacing decimal points and commas in numbers Blush

CardyMow · 02/12/2011 23:36

TBH I'm too scared to do the calculations on how much the Government will make if the NRP is on any more than £60K pa. It's just too scary a thought.

And yes, the £19K the Government make from EVERY CHILD WHOSE NRP IS ON £60K pa will pay towards chasing the non-compliant NRP's and the NRP's on benefits.

So basically, this is a measure to strip ANY Government financial support fromthe CSA, and make it entirely funded by the service users.

Holy moley!

OH - BTW - I don't work for the CSA, just had years of having to do their job for them, so know the calculations inside out.

CardyMow · 02/12/2011 23:37

I may have misplaced a decimal point. Blush. I will double check and repost if necessary.

WinterIsComing · 02/12/2011 23:37

Oh I see. Thanks Xmas Smile

I'm actually considering closing my case now to be honest. For £1.80 per week and if the CSA are that strapped for cash I'd rather that their admin were chasing the people who can pay a decent amount as opposed to this idiocy which will see so many children worse-off.
