YANBU. She's wrong. Mine's not up.

I put mine up 12 days (ish) before the 25th and take it down 12 days after.

oreocrumbs · 01/12/2011 22:20

Ours isn't up yet either! DBs birthday is 14th and we never put our tree up at home before that - and it just stuck with me to adulthood.

I'm a massive Christmas lover - but putting the tree up that bit later just means I have less time to keep the lounge clean and tidy Grin

WorraLiberty · 01/12/2011 22:21

Ours is going up at the weekend...I can't wait Grin

simpson · 01/12/2011 22:22

Mines not up yet either, may do it this weekend....

Sixyearoldwoes · 01/12/2011 22:28

I did tell her not to be so ridiculous! I would have thought that ours that is now up this evening is in a minority?

No there are loads up around here

We always do our on the 1st or the nearest weekend to it as it takes around 9 or 10 hours to do the lot.

That's the whole house by the way...windows etc and not just the tree Grin

Sixyearoldwoes · 01/12/2011 22:32

Wow! We have an annual debate about when to do ours as dh would be mid November if I let him and I'd probably go for Christmas eve!

YANBU. I usually put mine up pn the 2nd or 3rd weekend in December - really depends on how the dates fall. If the 3rd weekend falls later than the 20th, then I'd do it on the previous weekend. This year 3rd weekend is the 17th I think, so that's perfect. I think mine is a carry over from how my parents did it which I have just continued on.

IneedAChristmasNickname · 01/12/2011 22:37

I'm hoping to get away with not doing mine until Christmas eve. Then it will stay up for 12 days. DP always wants to put it up 12 days before, and have it up for 12 days after, as he says that's what the 12 days of Christmas is. I have told him that makes 24 days... Grin
But YANBU! Although I know loads of people who have put them up already, some even before today!

oreocrumbs · 01/12/2011 22:38

Worra it takes a good 9 or 10 hours to do ours too - not because we put up loads, or have an elaborate tree, its just between 4 dogs, 1 cat, 1 toddler (and 1 annoying DP) its a never ending cycle of bauble on/bauble off. Still love it though Grin

bubby64 · 01/12/2011 22:42

Ours doesn't go up til the weekend after my Dtb birthdays on 4th, until then its lead up to their birthday, after that we can concentrate on Christmas!

I put mine up today. It's the earliest I have ever done it but DS kept seeing all the lights on trees in shops etc and looking all amazed (10mo) so I decided to recreate the magic at home, early. He loves it.

Cadsuane · 01/12/2011 23:06

When I was little the tree and decorations went up after we were sent to bed on Christmas Eve. As I got older we still put the tree up on Christmas Eve or as close as would suite my parents.
Dh and I have argued over the years about Christmas Eve compared to December the first and we finaly settled on the third Sunday of Advent. However this year I sugested that we put them up on the 23rd (the extra day hoilday) and surprisingly everyone agreedGrin
We have also invited eldest DD's best friend (her family doesn't celebrate christmas) to come and help us and have a mini decorating party.
Counting the days now!

DiddyMary · 01/12/2011 23:13

Depending on what day of the week Christmas falls we usually aim for around the weekend before Christmas Day. With it being on a Sunday this year odds are it will be the Monday or Tuesday. It will stay up for the full twelve days of Christmas though.
