to think any sort of Séance is a load of bollocks

Has anyone actually been to a séance where cups have moved of their own accord and spelt a dead aunts name, or windows have blown open and all the lights gone out?

Just asking.

Ouiji or however the jeffing hell you spell it boards are board games sold by board game manufacturers.

It's a game.

LineRunnerSolsticeLover · 01/12/2011 16:48

No.

Get0rf · 01/12/2011 16:49

I think it is a load of nonsense, but people genuinely believe these things, and say that ouija is really damaging etc.

I love reading ghost stories but think there is always a rational explanation for any kind of ghostly activity.

Bucharest · 01/12/2011 16:50

I believe.

sue52 · 01/12/2011 16:52

Total bollocks birade over here.

Get0rf · 01/12/2011 16:53

Grin bucharest.

There is finally ONE THING we don't agree on - ghosts and horoscopes and woo stuff

KatieScarlett2833 · 01/12/2011 16:57

Yes

Two blind women doing seance with letters mixed up. They spelled out the word cancer. I was there along with other ladies 2 kids, must have been about 15. We deliberately only let the mums push the glass IYSWIM? There is no way either of them could have seen the letters.

Within 12 months both ladies (one was my mum) had cancer diagnosis. Mercifully both are fine.

I will never, ever do anything like that again.

LaurieFairyCake · 01/12/2011 16:57

I believe that people's actions move it, sometimes without their knowing.

I don't believe in external evil though, though yes to human evil.

LittleWhiteWolf · 01/12/2011 17:01

I'm a sceptical believer; I am always interested in hearing peoples experiences, but search for the rationale behind it. If, and only if, I can think of nothing else, will I entertain the idea of ghosts.

I have never been part of a ouija board/seance thing where I have believed a spirit has visited--its always been obvious that someone's tampering. But thats only been with friends, not with someone taking my money.

Bucharest · 01/12/2011 17:08

(Getorf, well, there was one other thing, Blush I didn't tell you about my soft spot for Joe McElderry last week when you were dissing his jumper Grin)

PetiteRaleuse · 01/12/2011 17:12

I believe strange things can certainly happen at these things, and wouldn't have the nerve to try.

merrymonsters · 01/12/2011 17:47

I don't really believe in it, but I have been to ouija sessions which worked. This was me and my siblings at home, but it did spell words and you seem to have conversations with something.

kreechergotstuckupthechimney · 01/12/2011 17:54

There was a fad for doing this when I was at school 35 years ago. A group of us went to a theatre where one persons brother worked.
We had a home made one and a wine glass. Somebody put oil on the bottom of the glass so that it couldn't be pushed.
I was a spectator, nothing happened and I was urged to join in. I put my index finger on and the glass flew off the table.
I think it shit us all up so much, I've certainly never been tempted again.
Paradoxically, I don't belive in ghosts or other such nonsense, although we have had some sort of entity in two houses we've lived in.

pranma · 01/12/2011 17:55

Yes-when I was a student we played and everyone was sure someone was pushing it then it changed-our hands went icy cold and it flew round the table really fast-it spelt out SS 101062
On the 10th of October 1962 my grandmother Sarah Smith died.
I have never messed with a Ouija board again.
She was ill but not believed to be near death.

jenniec79 · 01/12/2011 18:03

I loved Chris Brookmyre's novel "attack of the unsinkable rubberducks" on this topic. Might be worth a read OP.

seeker · 01/12/2011 18:07

As I always say on threads like these, there's a million bucks waiting for anyone who can show that any sory of paranormal or psychic activity exists. The money remains safely in the bank.

If you want to know how it's done, look up Derren Brown on Utube. It's all there.

KatieScarlett2833 · 01/12/2011 18:19

I would, seeker, but my time-travel machine is broken...

2rebecca · 01/12/2011 18:25

Of course it's all nonsense. People are gullible and like to believe life isn't as meaningless and finite as it is.

FellatioNelson · 01/12/2011 18:27

Never mind whether they are bollocks or not, I want to know how you get a accent on your E in Seance.

FellatioNelson · 01/12/2011 18:27

an accent. Not 'a accent'. Hmm

complexnumber · 01/12/2011 19:34

I'll let you into my secret FN...

I first typed into a word document as I wasn't sure of the spelling, this was offered as the correct version, so I cut and pasted

So how does anyone explain KatieScarlett's experience then? Apart from suggesting that Katie is lying, of course!
