WIBU to report this to the police?

I watched a courier van man stand by his side van door, which was rammed with deliveries and saw him open amazon boxes, other delivery parcels, pulling things out, turning the, over, opening those product boxes and remove items from packaging. He didn't see me watching him. His van was not branded, not DHL or UPS etc. I was in my house so I didn't want to come out and confront him as I felt he could target me easily seeing where I lived.

He was opening boxes, rifling, then re sealing with his own blue tape. Sme poor sod will probably not get their full order, companies will have to replace missing goods etc.

I called the non urgent police number to report this. Was that the right thing to do? I categorically stated I did not see him pocket items but my view was obscured some of the time as he had his back to me. He was def up to no good and was definitely opening packages. A police car went past wth his siren on and he slid the door shut with a start but then opened again to continue so definitely knew he was up to no good.

You did the right thing. Did you report his number plate?

Gonzo33 · 30/11/2011 14:11

YANBU what a horrible person he is. Could be ruining someones Christmas

troisgarcons · 30/11/2011 14:12

I would have videoed it on my mobile as well

coraltoes · 30/11/2011 14:15

Yes I gave the number plate. He stops here often to rearrange his deliveries, usually when I am doing story time (and gazing out of the window in a daze). Im not usually at my window spying!! This is the first time I have seen him do this. Didn't think to video!

YANBU, it's nasty behaviour

CeliaChristmasFete · 30/11/2011 14:15

Yes, I would have definitely report that. What an idiot.

No doubt he worked for Yodel (new name of Home Delivery Network). Amazon use them, I have no idea why. They are shit. This doesn't surprise me.

swampster · 30/11/2011 15:57

Yanbu.

BUT must defend Yodel here as my Yodel delivery guy is absolutely LOVELY!

MudAndGlitter · 30/11/2011 16:00

Was it in Milton Keynes? Waited in all day and my delivery hasn't shown up yet!

pooka · 30/11/2011 16:00

I have a friend who works for Yodel also, and she is lovely and trustworthy and would never do anything like this.

But that's not to say that there aren't bad apples in all organisations....

BupcakesandCunting · 30/11/2011 16:02

Where abouts are you, coraltoes? The only reason I ask is that I've just clocked a very dodgy delivery driver in my street taking parcels out of his van and into his cabin and looking like he is opening them!

pollywollyhadadollycalledmolly · 30/11/2011 16:02

That's terrible!! YANBU in the slightest. I hope he gets his backside booted for it.

effingwotsits · 30/11/2011 16:03

Have you reported it to the courier company too?

YANBU!

startail · 30/11/2011 16:07

YANBU I've got a stack of stuff on order, I'd rather like all of it.

KittyFane · 30/11/2011 16:10

Good for you OP.
YANBU.
Horrible man.
Email/ phone Amazon too?

BarmyBiscuit · 30/11/2011 16:24

I would have reported it in an instant. I hate it when deliveries don't turn up. I'm waiting on one now thats a week late actually but it's Royal Mail delivering it

EcoLady · 30/11/2011 16:24

Never mind the non-urgent number - I'd have been ringing 999. Well done you for shopping him.

coraltoes · 30/11/2011 16:44

north london Bupcakes

Effing- i couldn't report to the courier firm as i had no way of knowing which one he worked for! the van was a plain white one.

Ecolady- it was definitely not a 999 call, nobody was in danger and it was not a serious crime. Thankfully!

kitty fane...not a bad shout. interestingly i have an order pending from amazon and i know it is this guy who delivers it as he has done my past ones...SO TEMPTED to say something, or make him wait whilst i check the package. I know if it has blue tape then he has tampered with it at least!

I will be checking all my Amazon deliveries very carefully. My friend had a new phone delivered and everything was in the box - except the phone.
