Of course I don't read it!
But I just happened to notice this:

LimburgseVlaai · 26/11/2011 13:19

YABU to read the DM. Fascist arsewipe rag.

nickelbabe · 26/11/2011 13:22

That is a nice story - didn't even notice the Down's features appearance until after I'd read the information.

what a cute smile she's got! :)

LadyBeagleEyes · 26/11/2011 13:23

Kudos to the model agency that just saw a pretty little girl with a gorgeous smile.

catsareevil · 26/11/2011 13:41

If thats what happened.

Onemorning · 26/11/2011 13:51

She's a beautiful child.

What's sad is the shit she'll get as an adult with Down's. Sad

Anniegetyourgun · 26/11/2011 13:55

What do you mean there's no need for it? I feel strongly that the rag should not be encouraged, and this is AIBU after all.

Lovely story, so sad that in this day an age of information all parents are given is negative information by those in authority. Those born with DS can achieve many things, my 2 foster sisters are polar opposites, Em helps manage a small farm, with her own chickens of which she sells the chicks and eggs, drives a quad bike and exercises the miniature ponies. Caz on tthought hand tho bright refuses to communicate and has many additional diagnoses and mental health problems. Maybe the difference is that Em is a genetic boob whereas Caz has a DS uncle - accidental vs predisposed.

MunchingNoPickles · 26/11/2011 14:08

Lesser don't worry, it is AIBU after all.

SixFeetUnder · 26/11/2011 14:10

She is a beautiful baby, what a gorgeous smile and laughter in her eyes, warms the cockles so it does.

PeneloPeePitstop · 26/11/2011 14:12

I can't click on a Daily Hate link, sorry.
Anyone know of a link to a mirror site?

Anniegetyourgun · 26/11/2011 14:13

Sorry Weevils, I shouldn't have shouted at you. Your heart is in the right place and I am a grouchy old Annie.

Familydilemma · 26/11/2011 14:15

Nice, but along the way it kind of reinforces the "look pretty, get on in life" message. It's still modelling. Sorry to be bah humbug. She wouldn't have been picked if she'd looked downs, would she?

Dillydaydreaming · 26/11/2011 14:26

It's nice when the DM takes it's head out of it's arse and prints a nice story.

catsareevil · 26/11/2011 14:27

I think that she does have the typical facial features associated with Down Syndrome, but I dont think that looking that way and having Down Syndrome are mutually exclusive.

catsareevil · 26/11/2011 14:29

Sorry I meant that I dont think that looking pretty and having Down Syndrome are mutually exclusive.

Melpomene · 26/11/2011 14:34

I think that the mirror site for the Mail got taken down after they threatened legal action.

It's lovely to see such a joyful-looking little girl with a supportive family, but the fact that the story is in the Mail does leave a bit of a sour taste as the Mail puts so much energy into supporting cuts to welfare benefits for disabled people and spreading misinformation.

Familydilemma · 26/11/2011 15:02

I've just re read my own post and not sure I like what I wrote. Still debating whether it's true or not. And my sentiment was certainly not that kids with downs aren't beautiful. Whether or not they are instantly recognisable as such. The whole modelling thing, adult or child makes me feel a bit uneasy really-being looks reliant.

LesserOfTwoWeevils · 26/11/2011 15:06

Me too, FD. But it's her personality that makes her beautiful as much as her looks, and she helps to widen the very narrow range of what's considered beautiful.
