If you are joining the strike next week, AIBU to think it won't achieve anything?

I'm a primary teacher, have been for many years. My Union have called me to strike for the first time next week.

I want to support my Union and intend to strike.

However, I wonder if it will actually do any good?

Anyone with better political knowledge than me who can tell me how this is likely to play out??

What will happen if they don't?

Sometimes you just have to do the right thing.

Yes, I was thinking along those lines. It doesn't feel right to just roll over and take the changes to our pensions as that may pave the way for further cuts in the years ahead.

Equally I don't like the idea of endless further strikes which achieve nothing, or relatively nothing when balanced against the disruption caused.

I'm suppose I am hoping a big show of strength gives the Unions a better negotiating position?

Of course it won't - the money just isn't there to accede to the union's demands requests. It sucks in that money paid in to pensions is the worker's own money that they have earned, but Brown stole it in his "windfalls" and frittered it away. It is gone and nothing anyone can do can bring it back. It's just a shame that the more militant types who always seem to rise up the union ranks like scum on water are able to agitate and bluster and push these strikes through somehow and help lose a large portion of any public sympathy the affected workers might have had.

Striking just seems so futile... But not supporting your union is worse imo. I purposefully joined a union that does not rush headlong into strike action, so the fact they have called us to strike seems very significant to me.

I have a feeling of powerlessness about it all that is so depressing :(
