the plastic one is far far cheaper?

DS's 2nd birthday, he is into Bob the builder and Fireman sam in a huge way.

I have bought him a wooden workbench/tools that we can add to as he grows, for £45 - reduced from £65 or something like that. Free delivery.

However, just had a look at Debenhams and they have a sale on a plastic one, with a bit more stuff, for £12.50! plus, i could get a carry case with lots of tools in for £10, free delivery.

DH and I had felt wooden is much more us, after lots of plastic that did not last with DD, just breaks, ugly, badly made etc.

However, the cost is half. That is why wood costs though right? as it lasts longer, so a better investment.

I thought I knew what i wanted, but the plastic lures me back!

SO AIBU to spend much more on this present than I could?

I genuinely don't mean this in a bad way but who gives a shit Lol?

Surely you and your DH can decide between you?

You know what your kid likes
You know what you both like
You know your own finances

I'm sure you'll decide eventually

Do it. Wooden one will be perfect, he will love it! You could always get the box of plastic tools too. Wooden is always best!
(By the way, how the devil are you dear?)

Buy the wooden one. We bought DS1 a plastic cooker from elc when he was 2. 3 years later we are buying a wooden one for him as the plastic one has fallen apart after being used most days for 3 years. Will be the only present from us between all 3 boys so added bonus of less extra tat to find room for this christmas Grin

Go for the wood - will prb be able to give it away after many years's service

thebigkahuna · 23/11/2011 21:40

Worra beat me to it Sad

Pav we bought DS1 a wooden one for his 2nd birthday - it is still as good as new (apart from the stickers that DS1 stuck on it to 'decorate' it Hmm) now over 3 years later.

In fact, it had got buried in the playroom and we dug it out a couple of months ago for Ds2 (who is also beyond obsessed with Bob the Builder and Fireman Sam) and he loves it and plays with it all the time. We also have a couple of plastic ones (thanks to MIL insisting on buying them as presents) and they are not very sturdy and more of a novelty. I know that the wooden one will outlast them all Grin

Oh yes, it is noisier and also the tools can actually do some harm particularly if your older DC decides to use the hammer on the younger DC Grin

auntiepicklebottom2 · 23/11/2011 21:56

ds has had 3 plastic ones, the screws are easy to undo and gets lost and the tools imo easy break.

Get the wooden one ( did even know they did them)

worra et al...if you don't give a shit, then this thread does not apply to you, clearly Grin So I shall not observe your musings, only those that are relevant. Like my dear friend sirboob...

I dunno, we got DS1 (now 5.5) a plastic workbench from a charity shop for £2.50 and it has hardly been used.

So a) don't bother spending all that money
b) don't put said workbench in the garden playhouse where it never gets played with
or c) breed more appreciative DC! :)
