For pulling out of friend's birthday last minute because she has no furniture?

My friend is recently single and it's her birthday on Saturday. The plan was that I go with a bottle of wine, we have a take-away etc and just have fun. So I went today for something else and she has no furniture. Her ex must have taken it all. There was a bloke crouched on the floor who my friend told me to sit on.

I'm thinking of suggesting we go out for a meal instead, otherwise I really don't want to go.

Still feel bad though but I have a bad back and can't sit on the floor/bloke all night.

erm :o
I really don't know how to answer this!

misdee · 23/11/2011 15:50

was the bloke fit? ie hard and musclular? because in this situation i would prefer to sit on a squidgey bloke.

horsemadgal · 23/11/2011 15:50

Take some deck chairs.
Hmm at the bloke though??

WilsonFrickett · 23/11/2011 15:50

I think if she has no furniture paying for a meal out may be quite far down in her priorities Hmm

Hassled · 23/11/2011 15:51

YANBU. Sitting on a bloke eating a Rogan Josh is not my idea of a fun night.

QuintesentialShadows · 23/11/2011 15:51

Can you buy her a chair as a birthday present?

Ghoulwithadragontattoo · 23/11/2011 15:51

Have you been taking LSD?

lottiegb · 23/11/2011 15:53

Take some folding chairs (or buy her some). I've had to ask friends to bring extra chairs when hosting large numbers, why not?

Dirtydishesmakemesad · 23/11/2011 15:54

I would ask to go out - although if she has no furniture etc you may have to offer to pay. Where do you buy these bloke table and chairs? could be an interesting addition to my dining room.

StealthPolarBear · 23/11/2011 15:54

or take a friend
then you'll both have someone to sit on

SandStorm · 23/11/2011 15:55

Why not get her a couple of inflatable chairs as a present?

samwellsbutt · 23/11/2011 15:55

buy her a chair as a pressie from the martlets and be a supportive friend. cant imagine how shitty it would feel to be sitting on your own in an empty flat on your birthday, or you could invite her round to yours.

DreamsOfSteamingHotMincePies · 23/11/2011 15:55

YABU!

She could have asked you to bring your own bloke to sit on, at least she is providing the bloke. That, my friend, is the sign of a true hostess. Grin

DeepPurple · 23/11/2011 15:55

Get her a pair of retro bean bags? Grin at Sitting on bloke.

misdee · 23/11/2011 15:56

scroll down

lottielou39 · 23/11/2011 15:56

I've seen that movie too (with the human furniture); it was very funny!

WoodenElephant · 23/11/2011 15:56

They're mexican chair people, she is thinking of getting some more which is why I don't want to buy her new chairs as they won't match when she gets her others (and she likes everything matching and colour coordinated)

Suggest you go to IKEA - have a plate of meatballs and buy a chair.
Two birds.

Blu · 23/11/2011 16:01

oh right - but that's OK, they have Swedish Chair People at IKEA.
The flat packing makes them a bit uncomfortable though.

DreamsOfSteamingHotMincePies · 23/11/2011 16:01

misdee whats with the pysco comments at the bottom of that link? Confused

DreamsOfSteamingHotMincePies · 23/11/2011 16:03

that sound like misdee made the comments. To my knowledge that is not the case. Blush

WoodenElephant · 23/11/2011 16:04

Misdee wants to take a dump on the chairs and kill the people that made them.

Whatmeworry · 23/11/2011 16:04

Take a deckchair...or a bloke you want to sit on ife hers isn't good enough. Sorted.

joanofarchitrave · 23/11/2011 16:07

Couple of those plastic garden chairs? Only £5 each or something so she can get rid of them when she gets some more furniture. Actually very comfortable - we've ended up using them as dining chairs for the past three years Blush

ThePathanKhansWitch · 23/11/2011 16:10

Grin Was bloke comfy looking?
