To want to punch my dr let alone the receptionists?

I took my daughter in yesterday as over the weekend she had a high temp which I managed to get down and care for her at home but has since developed a horrific cough, red tonsils and a rash. Dr said she doesn't have a temp now so it's the tail end of it although it is def an infection. This morning she woke up crying with the pain of her cough, I am so annoyed as I only ever take her to the drs if I know it's something she will need extra help for.

Have just called the surgery back and I'm waiting for a call back. We were supposed to be seeing my brother today who does a show once every year all children with special needs show and it is amazing, it's the first time I'm taking her and if she'd had anti-b's yesterday she would be a bit better to go.

Just got call back to now see a different dr at 9.50.

So AIBU to want to punch her? Not actually physically punch her but definitely in my mind quite a few times.

She probably has a virus and therefore doesn't need antibiotics. YABU.

hester · 23/11/2011 08:48

Help me to understand: you're unhappy that the previous doctor didn't diagnose or prescribe appropriately? So now you've got an urgent appointment this morning with a new doctor? And you want to punch the new doctor?

Why?

And what has the receptionist done that's so awful?

Strawberrytallcake · 23/11/2011 08:48

No no no the dr said while I was there - she has a throat infection, not a virus, an infection.

errrr....the doctor's job is to do what is best for your dd's health in the long run, not to fit in with your other arrangements.

He has to weight the possible benefits of giving antiobiotics against the risks that a) this may be a virus infection in which ase antiobiotics will be useless b) too much prescription of antibiotics will cause resistance to them= problems in the future

the responsible attitude would be to only prescribe antiobiotics when you are reasonably sure there is a bacterial infection

belgo · 23/11/2011 08:49

What a lovely attitude towards your doctor.

If her temperature is going up and down, and she didn't have a temperature yesterday, then the chances are it;s a virus, and as you may or may not know, antibiotics don't work for viruses.

Pascha · 23/11/2011 08:49

Antibiotics wouldn't have kicked in this early so she still wouldn't be any better, even if there were signs of infection. More often than not antibiotics make little difference to the speed of recovery with throat and ear problems.

WorraLiberty · 23/11/2011 08:49

YABU

You are not a Dr and if your child is that unwell, AB's wouldn't make her well enough to go to the 'amazing show' less than 24hrs later.

belgo · 23/11/2011 08:50

a virus is an infectionHmm

cory · 23/11/2011 08:50

a throat infection is quite likely to be a virus infection; at the very least he should wait to see if it does turn into a secondary bacterial infection

Strawberrytallcake · 23/11/2011 08:55

The old dr is the one I want to punch, not the new one. The receptionist refused to take a repeat prescription for my husbands heart medicine Because she was too busy. They are so rude every time I go in there to EVERYONE. Just to add more info to the reason -

A year and a half ago I went in with mid cycle bleeding asking to be referref to a gynaecologist (as i have cover) which she refused to do and she examined me and said there is nothing wrong....asked me to keep a diary of my dates which I already had for three months and she refused to look at them, went back three months later and she suggested the pill. The pill made me bleed every day so I made her refer me against her will two weeks later I had a womb full of tumours and polyps cleaned out quite horrifically. It ruined my wedding and made me very ill. Whilst I was at an appointment with her she started telling me about her new boyfriend she met on the Internet, she even showed me a picture.

A viral infection.
Not necessarily a bacterial infection.

OP you've taken your own thread way off topic.

To get back to the point (re your child)

Yes, YABU.

Strawberrytallcake · 23/11/2011 08:59

Same dr, another reason to want to carry out the title. Not off topic.

The receptionist refused to take a repeat prescription for my husbands heart medicine Because she was too busy.

Just drop it in the sodding box, like the rest of the world does. Or email it. Or get the pharmacy to deal with it. Or post it. Why does the busy receptionist have to deal personally with it?

Strawberrytallcake · 23/11/2011 09:01

And previously when she has had an ear infection 24 hrs of anti-bs have made a difference, don't be condescending about me saying it's an amazing show. Idiot.

OP posts:
Pascha · 23/11/2011 09:01

And do they seem rude every time you go in there because you always present with a massive chip on your shoulder automatically putting them on the defensive?

SoupDragon · 23/11/2011 09:01

Have you thought about talking to your doctor about your anger issues?

[innocent]

blackoutthesun · 23/11/2011 09:02

yabu

what do you think a virus is?

Strawberrytallcake · 23/11/2011 09:02

Because it's the first time he's had to ask for a repeat and he's at work all day and some night, we've never had to carry out the repeat prescription process before and weren't given any forms so have no idea what it is.

reelingintheyears · 23/11/2011 09:03

Try asking politely.

Strawberrytallcake · 23/11/2011 09:04

Ha, no I am actually a v friendly person I just don't like rude people or people who don't do their jobs properly.

OP posts:
justabigdisco · 23/11/2011 09:04

But you don't know that it was the anti biotics that made the difference cage could well have been getting better anyway.

belgo · 23/11/2011 09:05

If she really was a lot better within a day of starting antibiotics, then she was probably getting better anyway and didn't need the antibiotics.
