Dear Designers at Gap,
Did you know your collection is crap?

Year after year,
Skulls everywhere,
Do you really lack creative flair?

Skulls with a kite
Skulls eating tripe
Skulls on a bike

Is it all doom and gloom?
Are you celebrating the retail boom?
With snowboarding Death

You honestly need to take a hike
with this line and give it a
... Proper wreath

YANBU

Sirzy · 22/11/2011 16:11

Shop somewhere else then!

pictish · 22/11/2011 16:11

Just had a look and yanbu. I've never liked Gap mind.

shoobydoowop · 22/11/2011 16:12

my lovely Aunt in the USA sends ds GAP clothes all the time and they are far superior to the designs over here

Proudnscary · 22/11/2011 16:12

Totes agree. Absolute SHIT for boys.

(AND for tomboy girls as everything is pink or patterned or full of 'detail' that my dd hates.)

startail · 22/11/2011 16:13

YANBU skulls give me the creeps.

ViviPru · 22/11/2011 16:15

How old is your DS,OP?

pictish · 22/11/2011 16:16

See my ds1 who is 10, loves skulls so when I read the OP I thought oooh maybe Gap has something worth paying for for once.
Nope.

The girl's collection is verging on hideous.

ElaineReese · 22/11/2011 16:16

Gap used to be so nice when my two were little - they had lots of sweet little cotton tops from there.

Now it's all just fucking FLEECE. Imagine a nice top. Ok, now lets make it out of fleece. Ok, now let's make it neon pink. And let's put a sort of peculiar flounce around the bottom. Lovely.

Meglet · 22/11/2011 16:20

YANBU.

I loved it when DS was a pre-schooler.

Now he's 5 the only things that are suitable are the bog standard GAP logo tops. Their skull / punky stuff looks cheap and nasty. I've been having a hard time trying to get him clothes recently.

lovelydogs · 22/11/2011 16:24

When my DD was a baby (10 yrs ago) I loved Gap. She had gorgeous sleepsuits, really beautiful designs, I've kept them too they are just great.

I went in there the other day to get a nice pair of PJ's and what a load of shit! They don't even match. I asked the lady if the matching tops/bottoms were due in and she said no that is it. Shock

Letz · 22/11/2011 17:38

"Do you really lack creative flair?" You only just noticed?

Really? Skulls? The clothes have GAP emblazoned across every single item in huge ugly letter and you are worried about skulls? Wow.

Crap quality too, IMO.

Mandy2003 · 22/11/2011 17:41

DS (12) won't wear Gap - he is still of the opinion that the logo means:
Gay
And
Proud

Which is not the image he wants to cultivate at his age!

NinkyNonker · 22/11/2011 17:43

I liked some of it, but it is so small! Mainly cause they do navy stuff for girls which lots don't, but at only 15 months dd is already taking 2 yr old stuff. Only buy at 30% off or second hand though, am a cheapskate.

WhereMyMilk · 22/11/2011 17:46

What I don't get is WTF with the jeans and cords?
Why oh why does everything HAVE to be skinny fit?
Anyone with any knowledge of anywhere other than Boden that I can get soft cords in boot cut for my DD (7) please help! :)

TroublesomeEx · 22/11/2011 17:47

Of course GAP lacks creative flair. It's not supposed to be creative, for the creative customer. It's supposed to be middle of the road, safe, dull and inoffensive.

Isn't it?

pictish · 22/11/2011 17:53

I detest their all-american preppy style. I really dislike polo or rugby shirts, those useless not-quite-a-jacket gilet things are horrible too.

cricketballs · 22/11/2011 17:55

it has always been the same with a very large number of companies!

I let my feelings known on some poor assistant in John Lewis's a number of years ago as I was trying to find an outfit suitable for a wedding for my then 3 year old ds. Whilst there were rows and rows of very pretty summer dresses for girls, the only clothes I could find in any shop for boys were very cheap looking shorts and t-shirts and the poor girl had to bear the brunt of my frustrations!

in fact I was only thinking the other night, that there is a huge gap in the market for clothes for boys between 11 -16 as most outlets only go to age 12, then to adults but, my 12 year old is getting slightly to big for 12 year old clothes but no where near the size for small adult

ViviPru · 22/11/2011 17:59

What would you all like to see in a range for boys?

cricketballs · 22/11/2011 18:03

Vivi -

tops that are not t-shirts but not stuffy shirts! My dh and eldest ds have some lovely casual tops that are not t-shirts and suit many different occasions.

Trousers don't always have to be jeans or trackies!

But mainly - something other than the usual crap Grin

TribbleToilandTrouble · 22/11/2011 18:08

Bright colours for boys, I went to find some mittens for ds and everything is either blue or grey. The girls stuff is lovely and was bright, but no it's population one, dullsville for the boy.

I would like boys stuff to have stuff other than trucks and monsters on it.

ViviPru · 22/11/2011 18:12

"casual tops that are not t-shirts" - what like?

"stuff other than trucks and monsters on it" again, any suggestions?

Boys 6-16 are very tricky to design for.

notso · 22/11/2011 18:14

I quite like some of it actually.
DS1 likes skulls and I find some of their skull stuff not too skullish IYSWIM, his winter parka was a bargain from there and the trousers fit him nicely.
I got some nice quality plains/stripes and joggers for DS2.
DD loves there super skinnies as she is super skinny.

I don't think anywhere is perfect for childrens clothes, especially not for boys- too much sludge and dull colours or pre-teen girls- unless you want them to look much much older..

Iggly · 22/11/2011 18:15

Agree. DS is 2 - was in there today. I wanted some jeans for him as 30% off but none of the waists are elasticated so rubbish. They had the odd nicely coloured bright t short but everything else, no thanks. I came away with socks. Which are the best socks ever I have to say, compared to other shops. But was disappointed with one pair having a skull on Confused

Tonksforthememories · 22/11/2011 18:15

No flipping skinny jeans/trousers! Why on earth my 2yo DS needs skinny fit trousers is beyond me.

Small people=freedom of movement.

No Skulls for children under 10. This goes for girls too.

Simply more choice would be nice. I've seen racks and racks of clothes for girls, and maybe one or two for boys. All sludge coloured too!
