to think that if you say, "Here's a bag of clothes, take what you want and give the rest to the Hospice shop"

...the clothes should not then be for sale on the internet?

YANBU!

cyb · 20/11/2011 20:44

Well it coudl be said that once you've handed them over what happens is not up to you. Maybe the seller was going to give the money to the charity?

mercibucket · 20/11/2011 20:44

yanbu

unless of course it's the hospice selling them?

troisgarcons · 20/11/2011 20:45

to think that if you say, "Here's a bag of clothes, take what you want and give the rest to the Hospice shop"

that you shouldnt be such a lazy cow and take your own tat up the charity shop.

HandMini · 20/11/2011 20:46

But you said "take what you want". If the person you gave them to wanted to take them and sell them, isn't that OK?

JamieComeHome · 20/11/2011 20:46

No, they should not.

Would be nice to think the money's for charity, but only you can judge how likely a scenario that is.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 20/11/2011 20:46

How do you know that they are?

Bad form though.

TheMonster · 20/11/2011 20:47

YANBU.

JamieComeHome · 20/11/2011 20:47

I do agree that I probably wouldn't hand over a whole bag and expect the person to deal with it. I'd let them take what they wanted and take the rest to the charity shop myself

said · 20/11/2011 20:48

Hmm, it's not quite in the spirit of it, is it?

dearprudence · 20/11/2011 20:48

Charity shops sell things on ebay. Are you sure the seller isn't working on behalf of the charity?

TheBolter · 20/11/2011 20:49

I think YABU for not bothering to take the discarded stuff to the charity shop yourself!

JarethTheGoblinKing · 20/11/2011 20:50

Ha, I knew that's what this would be about

I'd have no qualms whatsoever selling decent stuff on ebay, BUT I would donate a large proportion to charity. Charity shops often don't recognise things that could potentially raise a lot of money.

DrSeuss · 20/11/2011 20:50

To clarify, there was no tat, just good quality clothing in used but good condition. She is selling them for herself, the Hospice gets nothing. Arguably, having given them, I have no say in what happens but I can't help feeling it's a bit much to do someone a favour and then have that happen. I've had clothes from other mums before including some really posh ones. It never occurred to me to sell them.

DrSeuss · 20/11/2011 20:51

Oh, and she asked me if I had any clothes my daughter had outgrown.

OP posts:
JarethTheGoblinKing · 20/11/2011 20:52

Ah, that is bloody well out of order tbf.. You did say 'keep what you want' and she's clearly interpreted this as 'do what the hell you want with this'

cheeky bint

troisgarcons · 20/11/2011 20:52

You gave them away - you have no jurisdiction over what happens to them.

sayjay · 20/11/2011 20:53

My DB did this to me with a car . We helped him out when he was stuck without one and we were trading up - we could have sold it for a few hundred quid but he needed a car so we gave it to him. Next month - he put it on ebay Hmm

JamieComeHome · 20/11/2011 20:54

Well, you'll know not to do that again. I don't know anyone who'd sell stuff I'd given them. Yes, technically she can do what she wants with them, but it isn't in the spirit with which you gave them

DrSeuss · 20/11/2011 20:54

They are on the local Facebook selling page, with photos.

OP posts:
JamieComeHome · 20/11/2011 20:55

Also, if she's asking you for stuff, then she should be offering you a share in her profits

JamieComeHome · 20/11/2011 20:55

that really is cheeky

sayjay · 20/11/2011 20:56

That is brazen. Tell her "I didn't realise it was cash you wanted from me - you should have told me how difficult things are for you" (which they may be btw)

RandomMess · 20/11/2011 20:57

You could comment on her status something like "how nice of you to sell the clothes you asked for to donte the money to the Hospice shop"??????

MULLYPEEP · 20/11/2011 20:57

YANBU. What a cheek.
