you should have heard of the song 'Think' by Aretha Franklin. I am totally shocked that Tulisa declared that not many people would know the song.

squeakytoy · 20/11/2011 20:16

Tulisa is bloody useless as a judge.. and I doubt many people could name one of her songs!

Clossaintjacques · 20/11/2011 20:17

Well I couldn't for one and I googled her a while back but I still can't remember any Grin

But how could she have never heard of the song 'think' ?
Surely a knowledge of music should be one of the pre-requisites for being a judge?

Vicki1981 · 20/11/2011 20:45

I couldn't believe she'd never heard of it and didn't expect that the audience would have either.

twinklytroll · 20/11/2011 20:47

I have cared for elderly parents, as far as I know that does not qualify me to be an x factor judge.

I may enquire just in case. It must beat this teaching lark.

Trills · 20/11/2011 20:47

YABU

ImperialBlether · 20/11/2011 20:57

Grin @ twinklytroll.

runningwilde · 20/11/2011 20:58

I agree that Tulisa is a shit judge. Why don't they have proper judges of say, LA Reid's character? There should be more music producers up there judging

I played Respect once in college for a project in Media Studies. Someone then raised their hand and asked if it was Katy Perry.

I nearly shot the ignorant bitch.

I agree with the OP - Tulisa should have heard of her, for Gods sake! It's like saying you've never heard of Frank Sinatra or Nat King Cole!

And before anyone gets me up on how I must be old and infirm with a music taste like that - I'm 21. So ner :o

TeWihara · 20/11/2011 21:15

We couldn't believe it either. She is only a year younger than me and I would die of shock if any of my friends said they didn't know think.

More to the point, there's a lot of roots in Urban music in those old Aretha tunes, I can't believe she has never come up in conversation with studio producers Confused

IfYouSeeKay · 20/11/2011 21:17

I ranted at the TV for a good 5 minutes when she said she'd never heard 'Think'. I was prepared to give her the benefit of the doubt up until that point but FFS! To be a judge on the X-Factor you should have a broad musical knowledge, especially about such influential artists as Aretha.

I bloody hope that if there's a series next year that she's not on the panel. Or Louis for that matter. And they should perhaps have a rethink about Kelly. And Gary.

The whole bloody lot of them want taking outside and their butts kicked for being bloody useless! Not a pinch of gravitas between them and personality is a bit thin on the ground too!

StealthPenguin · 20/11/2011 21:21

Also, was I the only one who complained bitterly that they claimed "Think" was from Bridget Jones? IT BLOODY ISN'T, IT'S FROM THE BLUES BROTHERS, BUT YOU WOULDN'T KNOW THAT ABSOLUTE CLASSIC EITHER, WOULD YOU TULISA?

Angry
TeWihara · 20/11/2011 21:22

But Stranded - you're not a judge on a music show!

And have you really never heard it? It's on loads of movie soundtracks... and Aretha sings it in the Blues Brothers too...

Greenshirt · 20/11/2011 21:23

I'm 40 and didn't know it.I know a lot of other songs though. So fucking shoot me now.

IfYouSeeKay · 20/11/2011 21:23

stranded, but you and your friends aren't making a career out of the music industry and putting yourself forward as enough of an 'expert' to be in a position to judge others, are you?

It's no wonder Tulisa's song choices have been so dodgy overall....she appears to believe music is about 10 years old.

bang at Greenshirt.

Well, you asked! :o

MenopausalHaze · 20/11/2011 21:24

It was on The Edge of Reason

shineynewthings · 20/11/2011 21:25

Agree! A knowledge of music should totally be a necessity before you become a judge.

How. Could. She. Not. Know. That. Song.

Even IF she didn't know it was Aretha Franklin, she should have known that song. To admit not knowing it frankly made her look right out of her depth.

And then she said most of the audience wouldn't have known it either...in other words ME.

I just thought speak for yourself!

StealthPenguin · 20/11/2011 21:25

Stranded - go buy it from Amazon and watch it. It's an absolute classic! Action/Comedy/Drama/Romance thing with the biggest police car pileup in any film before or since.
