to think that life is too short to iron bed sheets?

AIBU to think that frankly there are better, more important things to be doing and that in all honesty once they're on the bed you can hardly tell. Also teatowels for that matter (have a friend who does this). DM seems to think it is v important to ensure all items are ironed. Perhaps a generational thing?

Or am I being lazy?

My MIL is horrified that I don't iron bedding. I iron as little as possible, tbh.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 20/11/2011 17:11

Either YANBU or I'm also lazy. Grin

Trills · 20/11/2011 17:11

YANBU

But some people either
1 - like flat sheets more than you do
or
2 - don't mind ironing as much as you do

So for them ironing might be worth it.

livinonaprayer · 20/11/2011 17:11

Life's too short to iron anything!! Smile

squeakytoy · 20/11/2011 17:12

I hate the look of creased crumpled bedding on a freshly made bed, so I do fold sheets and duvet covers over twice and then give them a quick iron, it only takes five minutes and looks so much better.

icooksocks · 20/11/2011 17:15

YAsoNBU

There are 5 (soon to be 6) people in our house, I dont have time to iron bedding, tea towels or smalls.

purpleknittingmum · 20/11/2011 17:16

Not ironed bedding in nearly 20 years! I hate the look of ironed sheets on the bed, with all the squares where they been ironed to death

My mum has only just stopped ironing knickers!

I don't iron tea towels, or nightwear. I know some people that dab socks with the iron, no way would I do that!

mumofthreekids · 20/11/2011 17:19

What Chickens said - for both the ironing and the MIL!

Tee2072 · 20/11/2011 17:19

Life is too short to be ironing. Period.

Kayzr · 20/11/2011 17:19

YANBU!!! What's the point? They will only get creased when you get into bed.

pinkytheshrunkenhead · 20/11/2011 17:20

But it is not too short to pay someone else to iron bed sheets

MenopausalHaze · 20/11/2011 17:20

People actually do this? Seriously?

FabbyChic · 20/11/2011 17:20

I never iron bed sheets ever. Only old grannies iron bed sheets.

Neuromantic · 20/11/2011 17:20

Life is too short not to iron sheets! Or duvet covers anyway. I never used to but started recently and to be honest it is a revelation...its such a lovely feeling sliding under crisp ironed thick cotton bedding, so much nicer than crumpled limp specimens.

TalkinPeace2 · 20/11/2011 17:21

peg out tightly on the line ?
= no creases

abcdangel · 20/11/2011 17:22

YANBU if you have better things to do with your time - but I'm afraid that your newly made up beds just won't look as nice as mine.

I find that the time spent ironing passes really quickly with a huge glass of sauv blanc nice cup of tea and come dine with me antiques roadshow on the telly.

I iron most things but now draw the line at doing DH's boxers - not because I don't love him but because once a pair of unwashed ones sneaked into the laundry basket... That steamy experience is not one you get over quickly.

ModreB · 20/11/2011 17:23

YABU to iron full stop. I don't iron, ever, and if DH needs a shirt ironed he does it himself. Grin

mousymouse · 20/11/2011 17:26

strategic drying = no ironing
I have to admit to ironin a sheet once because ds was sick and we didn't have any spares left. so I had to iron to get one dry before bedtime...

YusMilady · 20/11/2011 17:27

I iron my bedlinen. But not teatowels. That's just DAFT.

Pascha · 20/11/2011 17:29

I would much rather iron my sheet than spend time pegging it out tightly on the line or precisely folding it the moment the tumble drier finishes. It only takes five minutes to iron sheet, duvet cover and 6 pillow cases and the difference is lovely.

ll31 · 20/11/2011 17:30

I love ironed sheets - hardly ever do it tho

VeniVidiVino · 20/11/2011 17:30

Glad to see I'm not alone in this!

boak at abcdangel for dirty pants ironing though! How on earth did they get in the clean pile?

AmberLeaf · 20/11/2011 17:30

What's ironing?

Crabapple99 · 20/11/2011 17:34

Haqving come across fleas/bedbugs/scabies etc in my job, YES IRON THE SHEETS especially the seams, could save one stray preganant bedbug becoming an infestation that takes a year to clear and costs thousand, especially if you live in London, you could bring bedbugs home with you pretty much any day.
Dishclothes are sterilised by ironing, if you want them sterilised. Good idea if you have someone in the family on chemo, or anything like that.

Cinquefoil · 20/11/2011 17:39

DH irons muslins, socks and bath towels. Drives me mad.
