to think that life is too short to iron bed sheets?

AIBU to think that frankly there are better, more important things to be doing and that in all honesty once they're on the bed you can hardly tell. Also teatowels for that matter (have a friend who does this). DM seems to think it is v important to ensure all items are ironed. Perhaps a generational thing?

Or am I being lazy?

I don't iron anything other than the odd shirt or smart thing that is overly crumpled. Everything is shaken vigorously when i pull it out of the washing machine and then hung up to dry in a crease free manner. It is all then folded carefully and put away - neither myself nor my son look like tramps either! i enjoy ironing - but that is probably because i do is so infrequently that it is still a novelty!

The anti-crease button on the washing machine (when line-drying) does a good job of minimising the creases. In the winter, when I tumble-dry bedding, taking it out of the dryer as soon as it is done and folding immediately does just as good a job.

Really don't see the point of ironing bedding!
And it takes a lot longer than 5 mins if you haven't got a massive ironing board and one of those steam-generating thingies.

You have to iron cotton bedding though, the polycotton stuff doesn't need ironing IMO.

I tried to make my dd's do some of their shirts for 6th form as they have a business dress code. I ended up doing them as I couldn't bear them going out in an unironed shirt. ED didn't care if she didn't have ironed shirts.

I love the feel of ironed sheets but I never usually get around to ironing them. I iron DD's school uniform, and and selected items of her other clothing, my clothing and DSD's clothing. If my OH wants something ironed, he has to do it himself, apart from that one time when he had leg surgery and couldn't stand up for prolonged periods and I graciously did him a few shirts.

precariouslybalanced your mum is a genius.

Alemci - you don't! I have Egyptian cotton and linen sheets, neither get the ironing treatment - I just hang and fold them carefully then stack them in the airing cupboard, which presses them nicely! i used to have a rayburn (like an aga) and all my sheets and ironables sat on top of the closed lids for an hour or so after drying - pressed them perfectly!

Whatmeworry · 21/11/2011 14:07

Sheets can be folded when still warm from tumble drying and turn out very nicely. Sorted.

WestYorkshirePudding · 21/11/2011 14:11

I'm sorry but shaking / drying / pegging out NEVER gets rid of all the creases and nothing looks as nice as ironed clothes. And bedding? I love getting into bed when the sheets are clean and ironed :)

Yes, I'm sad!

I like ironing. It's the only time I actually watch TV uninterrupted. I iron sheets, duvet covers, tea towels, terry nappies.

whoneedssleepanyway · 21/11/2011 14:18

I iron my bedsheets I love the feel of freshly laundered crisp bed sheets.

I found the more you iron the quicker it is, so I can get through a whole laundry basket now in under an hour whilst watching tv so not really much of an effort Grin

each to their own though.
