without giving a second thought? we all go "urgh" at the challenges but those animals are sentient - the crocs with their jaws taped shut, the eels and rats that get stood on...even the insects that get eaten alive or stood on,

i HATE it. i dont watch it anymore and ive complained for all the good it does...

aibu? it obviously entertains the masses....

mycatsaysach · 19/11/2011 21:47

yh me too

SaggyoldCHRISTMASHUMBUGcatpuss · 19/11/2011 21:54

I started this thread last week. Nobody seemed to care really! I think it's shit! Can you imagine the uproar if they replaced cockroaches with fluffy kittens??!!

emmam25 · 19/11/2011 22:05

YANBU

I completely agree. It disgusts me that it's considered socially acceptable to treat any living creature in the way that they do on that programme. I have never watched it, I think it's vile, and complained myself about the way the animals are treated.

Although, I do also think there are far worse examples of the mistreatment of animals (including humans) in society which should also be addressed.

VivaLeBeaver · 19/11/2011 22:06

Yanbu.

Selks · 19/11/2011 22:07

Yanbu.

It's terrible.

uniCorny · 19/11/2011 22:07

I wouldn't let my ds's needlessly kill an insect It's the way that the insects are killed/eaten for entertainment - it's awful.

NewsClippings · 19/11/2011 22:34

YANBU. So unnecessary.

recall · 19/11/2011 22:35

YANBU

notjustme · 19/11/2011 23:18

Try as we might, the rat fancy haven't yet succeeded at getting them to stop using rats/mice in the tasks (as well as other animals). The saddest thing about it is that all of the animals are provided by a company - the rats are bred and raised for the show and are all human friendly, so the whole 'omg it's BITING me' thing is bollocks.

Then at the end of the show they all get euthanised, just lovely.

BarmyBiscuit · 19/11/2011 23:23

Humans eat pigs, cows, chickens on a daily basis but AIBU isn't inundated with "is eating the cow I saw moo-ing the other day cruel?"

notjustme · 19/11/2011 23:26

Mmm, that's true BB, however, there are strict standards for the slaughter of cattle etc, but not when you tell two has-been celebs to kill a rat and eat it.

Merlotmonster · 19/11/2011 23:29

i agree..its disgusting ..i wont watch it because of the poor creatures

KouklaMoo · 19/11/2011 23:31

Yanbu, I haven't watched it for years for this reason.

LordOfTheFlies · 19/11/2011 23:34

I've never watched it. Not because of any animal involvement, but because I can't stand "reality" shows, sleb or otherwise.

With the exception of Come Dine With Me.

NoHunIntended · 20/11/2011 00:23

I boycott it too. It is disgusting, and I hold in contempt the people who think it is entertaining. That said, if you eat any meat, it's not worse, animals still die needlessly and cruelly.
Not that I watch any reality type/vote for me shows anyway.

xkittyx · 20/11/2011 00:25

Totally agree. One of the many reasons I wouldn't watch it. I say this as a meat-eater but I hate wanton killing - I wouldn't even kill an insect unless I planned to eat it. In fact, my brother's rule with his kids is - you kill it you have to eat it!

sozzledchops · 20/11/2011 01:19

Agree, I really don't understand how they get away with it. Both the animal cruelty side and the stomach churning, bullying humiliation side for the guests. I really don't need to see people eating live animals, being traumatised etc. Give me Total Wipeout anyday Grin!

ThatVikRinA22 · 20/11/2011 15:06

every year i email the ITV complaints dept....

it pisses me off.

YANBU. I can't believe it's got another series! It's hideously cruel, it should never have been given air time. Maybe one of the challenges should be to eat ant and decs bollocks instead of a poor kangaroos. Actually i might watch that.

babyhammock · 20/11/2011 15:43

I agree totally.

Andrewofgg · 20/11/2011 16:22

Sorry OP by animals I thought you meant the "celebrities*.

Rubbish, aren't they?
