I think it's meant to be, it's a period drama, therefore indicative of it's time. If it was based in Victorian times it'd be more sexist.

Sian looks too skinny on tv so in RL she must look anorexic. I do not believe for one minute that her size is achieved painlessly. At her age and with 4(?) kids she will be fully aware that the spotlight will be on her as to whether or not she is "too old" for tv now so the only way she feels she can control that, or delay the decision to retire her, is by controlling her weight.

I don't think people have a realistic idea of size anymore, everything is supersized. I bet most people would be amazed to know what medically underweight looks like. It's actually very hard to be underweight, most thin people are not. In fact in all likelyhood they are just as they should be, but in a nation where the average woman is a size 16 we have no idea what normal looks like.

Why do people still deny that this is happening? "it's the same for men" "They are just well groomed" "Why are women being bitchy about other women's appearance- they just look the way they want to look"

I bet they wouldn't be so bloody complacent if they thought they were goingnto be replaced as too old at 35!

seeker sian is 47. Also I gree with northernluker, rational and serinitysutton. People have no perception of size now sian is in great shape to be able to do the dancing ad other stuff much better than being obese and not being able to breathe and sweating after 2 minutes of it.

16 is supposed to be average which is huge compared to any other era but this hence why they have to vanity size. That isnt 'normal' for most people its just a lot are overweight unfortunately.

Sian is tiny. But she has a tiny frame, she looks great imo. I thought she looked petite but curvy and healthy last night.

It's no wonder they want to look at their best when they are held up to such scrutiny.

also for some people its their natural shape I am 21 weeks pregnant and have only just hit 8 stone at 5 foot 3. This is my second one to it doesnt mean you dont eat I eat what I want I just have a very active lifestyle but I suppose if I met some of you I would be an abnormal lettuce eating freak. Its not a nice thing to say imo and agree with northernlurker about her daughter

I'm the same age as Sian, size 10-12 and BMI of 21. I completely agree that people have lost perspective on a healthy size but Sian looks about 1/2 my size. I really don't think she is a good example to use for that argument. And look, I'm getting sidetracked discussing her size.

Pippin's got to be bloody ancient in doggy years. We used to watch it when DD was tiny and she's at uni now.

I also agree we have lost perspective about size but we seem to have super skinny people on screen much larger people off screen than ever before.

Why nothing in the middle?

I think as someone else said, perhaps professional hard working people are more in control of their bodies?

Because people 'in the middle' are derided in the media for being fat. Like Princess Eugenie for example. Contrasted with her much thinner sister.
