to be annoyed that a 6 week old has received junk mail.

I mean, fgs, DD is our pfb, 6 weeks old and has today received in the post (envelope specifically addressed to her) one of those vouchers for a photoshoot.

It's the type where they say you don't have to buy any pictures but then they keep you there for 50 years after the shoot persuading you to buy all the photos.

We always mark "no mailings/junk mail etc" on any forms we have to fill in because we don't want junk mail ourselves, plus it's not very environmentally friendly.

So far I can only think to blame the bank.

Did you have her photo taken at th ehospital? Probably from them.

No photo at the hospital. Bounty woman tried by initially starting to get all the usual basic info and DH said we were not interested in giving our personal details or having her picture taken so she buggered off.

I honestly cannot think (accept the bank) where they have got her name from. She has bank accounts now but only them and the hospital/GP know her name.

The company has received an appropriately worded email this evening!

I remember there was a section on the Bounty slip for her name and date of birth but we have never filled in that info, also the most basic info just to get the next slip - DH put his name and address.

I think junk mail annoys me more than anything for the waste of paper but to already be starting on someone so young is ridiculous.

Squeaky you need to speak to your dog about all his form filling in, the only letter our dog gets is "Hi, your vaccinations are due" , which is not very exciting post.

Write again, telling the company they are in breach of the Data Protection Act, as they clearly hold information "for a reason that is not the one it was collected for"
ICO: Data Protection ? when and how to complain.

Ask them where they got this info and (if they strop) to show evidence that you gave permission for your daughter's information to be collected and used this way.

Every organisation must by law have a designated Data Controller who manages these issues, so if the rank and file piss you about, ask for the name of the DC.

If they still piss you about, you can complain to the ICO.

In fact, if you can be bothered, have a general rootle through the Information Commissioners Office guidance.

YANBU. Not at all. And don't get me started on the bl**dy Bounty woman and her assorted cohorts, who all tired to sell me stuff just hours after DS was born and I was sore, bleeding, emotional and attempting to learn to breast feed...why do the NHS allow this?

We got a rake of marketing post addressed to "the parent of ............", a few weeks after I opened dd2 bank account. She was about 12 weeks or so by then. I didn't fill in Bounty info at all when she was born.

I remember mentioning to my husband - you don't think its the bloody bank do you?

could I just point out that birth certificates are free for anyone to view and if a company wants a marketing list for newborns in the area it's at their fingertips in local records office

DS1 (12) keeps getting 'urgent' txts from a company saying he hasn't claimed the payment protection on his loan back yet.

Birth certificates and registers are not free for everyone to view.

Only the index is on general view. This contains the three-montly quarter, child's full name, mother's maiden name, registration district and, for the General Record Office index, number and page of the register.

To order a birth certificate for anyone born past a certain date, you must show you already know the full name and exact date of birth.

Yes we have opened some bank accounts for her cream as they are the only ones with her name that's why I think it must be them, although I always tick the 'no marketing' box.

I will look into what tianc said too.

It is the environmental side that ticks me off a lot.

I find it works to write "I have no interest in your company. Please delete me from your mailing list" on the letter and post it back. Use their envelope or freepost address if the have one, otherwise write "Not known, return to sender" on their envelope. If they have a freepost address, some people like to send them a brick and they will have to pay the postage.

And texts, you know to text back "STOP ALL"?

First DS1 with his payment protection text now Ds2 has had one. Apparently he's due £2750 from the accident he had apparently. I can't expect them to know it's a nine year old's emergency phone for walking home from school- but really??

That is rubbish, sending a 6 week old junk mail.

My friend got a similar photo offer thing that was supposed to be for her DDs first birthday (addressed to her DD). It upset her greatly as her DD was stillborn.

And don't get me started on Bounty and their quiz for women who have just given birth so they can sign you up for junk mail. They don't even say "this is optional" they just come in and ask your details like the medical staff do.

Vodafone have a scheme where you forward the text to 87726 and they block it in some way as spam. Maybe other moby co's can do the same?

So obviously no bank account with just about excusable small print.

This sounds very fishy indeed.
