Who are Santa's presents from, him or us?

New argument with DP.

He just told me Hmm that Santa's pressies come from us and Santa just delivers them. I said, nooooo, that's so wrong in sooo many ways. Santa's pressies are all to do with him. DD sends him the begging letter and also the thank-you afterwards. We know nothing about anything until Christmas morning.

Anyway, I told him Grin that I had never heard of that before and I would put it to MN to find out let him know it's bollocks.

She'll be 2.6 at Christmas so it's her first one where she'll really get the build up and DP is also very excited about the glass of sherry and mince pie extravaganza that Santa will get. Again Hmm.

I'd say both. Why should Santa get all the credit? He bought some things,as did you.

Father Christmas brings stocking presents and a main present each and we give the under the tree ones.

tyler80 · 18/11/2011 20:58

In our household, Santa brings a selection of small items and leaves them in a stocking. Large gifts come from Mum and Dad, no delivery by Santa involved.

So you're both wrong Grin

Kayzr · 18/11/2011 20:58

They are from Santa!!

MrsWembley · 18/11/2011 20:59

That's something like I told him. We buy something for under the tree but Santa does the stocking.

We give Santa the money and he buys/makes them and then delivers :)

dustystarry · 18/11/2011 20:59

H's family always had Santa bring all the pressies which seems mad to me. In my house he bought the stocking pressies and everything else came from the family. When we had children H and I decided to follow my family's tradition as it keeps the magic of Father Christmas but also allows the children to understand and be grateful for the presents they get from family.

sparkle12mar08 · 18/11/2011 20:59

Santa presents from Santa, and other presents from you - how could it be otherwise?!

SoupDragon · 18/11/2011 21:00

Santa brings a sack of presents. Other people also get the children presents.

FFSEnid · 18/11/2011 21:00

I've never understood santa in the role of a delivery man. Its pointless.

Happymm · 18/11/2011 21:01

We have Santa bringing a couple of gifts, plus a satsuma, bag of chocolate coins in the DC's stockings.

All other gifts are under the tree and are from the people who sent them, mummy and daddy, granny, auntie etc-how else can they thank the appropriate giver?Confused

and for how long are they going to actually believe that you buy the gifts, and send them to Santa to bring-all that stuff! How would he have room? For every child?

slavetofilofax · 18/11/2011 21:01

Santa doesn't come to this house, but Father christmas does, and he brings all the stocking presents and put a couple under the tree. We can tell which presents Father Christmas brings because all his presents are wrapped in Father Christmas paper.

DH, their Dad and I give other presents, and we would never wrap our presents in Father Christmas paper because that would be wrong.

Even now that the dc are too old to believe.

piratecat · 18/11/2011 21:02

santa or FC here, brings a bloody girt big sack of pressies, the ones on the list, and a few more besides.

mum puts a few special ones under the tree.

one day I WILL REAP THE GLORY Smile

In our house, Father Christmas (who is this Santa?) fills the stocking at the end of the bed, hence the need for leaving him a little mince-pie, something alcoholic and a carrot for Rudolph.

Under the tree, the presents are all from someone and are labelled.

But this set-up is the result of years of browbeating negotiating with my husband who is from a culture in which all presents come from Father Christmas, and my family, who were horrified that all their carefully chosen gifts wouldn't come from them.

Anything more than a stocking (and maybe another but not everything) is just odd to me - why would you leave your child thinking that you don't care enough about them to buy them presents? Isn't it just a giveaway that Father Christmas is not real - same with the buying and him delivering, although at these that helps explain why he might favour some kids more than other.

So for me, stocking only... I hope DW feels the same or we'll be arguing in the future...

Ratso · 18/11/2011 21:05

Santa brings ONE decent sized present and some choccies (maybe a couple of smaller bits like colouring in book and felt tips) and we do the rest under the tree.

WHY should he get all the glory?

Happymm · 18/11/2011 21:05

It's Santa you nutters!:o

colliwobble · 18/11/2011 21:05

whats working for my dc's at the moment is that santa used to do everything, but now there are so many children in the world and so many new things that santa cant make in his workshop, that he needs factories to help make them and mummys to help buy them. I put them in the cupboard and Santa uses his magic to wisk them away until Christmas. (though ds is 7, think he's suspicious)

GreenEyesandNiceHam · 18/11/2011 21:05

He's a glorified postman- the presents are from us.

He's not pointless though hoh no. He holds all the cards- he decides if they've been good enough to receive them. And he's watching. He's watching right now

He's a creepy glorified postman

SummerRain · 18/11/2011 21:06

Santa brings two presents each and the stocking (and foots the bill) and the rest of the stuff under the tree is from us (or other family and friends)
