Who are Santa's presents from, him or us?

New argument with DP.

He just told me Hmm that Santa's pressies come from us and Santa just delivers them. I said, nooooo, that's so wrong in sooo many ways. Santa's pressies are all to do with him. DD sends him the begging letter and also the thank-you afterwards. We know nothing about anything until Christmas morning.

Anyway, I told him Grin that I had never heard of that before and I would put it to MN to find out let him know it's bollocks.

She'll be 2.6 at Christmas so it's her first one where she'll really get the build up and DP is also very excited about the glass of sherry and mince pie extravaganza that Santa will get. Again Hmm.

Santa doesn't even wrap the few presents he gives in our house, lazy bugger!

troisgarcons · 18/11/2011 21:06

Santa does everything. End of.

Whatevertheweather · 18/11/2011 21:07

Santa delivers stocking and main presents but we have to pay him for them hence why the list cannot be outrageous. All presents from relatives are given from them no Santa involvement.

Sapphirefling · 18/11/2011 21:08

Presents from friends and family are placed under the tree when they are delivered by the giver ands then opened on Christmas morning. Santa brings a stack of pressies big and small. I think it's slightly weird when grown adults are hung up about having to take the credit for Santas pressies. I adore seeing the kids faces on christmas morning and don't give 2 hoots about taking credit for them. I think it takes a certain type of person (i.e my ex Wink ) to depend gratitude from a 2 year old rather than enjoy the magic in that 2 year olds eyes....

Santa, Santa, Santa!

orienteerer · 18/11/2011 21:08

Santa brings a sack of small items to end of bed (or wherever). Parents put one, possibly two, presents uner tree.

leftmymistletoeatthedoor · 18/11/2011 21:08

Santa brings the stocking and one main present.

Kids write the letter and santa tells everyone what he wants and decides if they have been good enough to get them ;)

So ds has asked for a ds and imaginext t rex - my mums getting him the t rex, my brother is getting him the ds, santa is getting him a ds game.

Ayhe wouldn't normally get so much, my brother is insistent on the ds)

Sapphirefling · 18/11/2011 21:10

'demand' gratitude even

Bogeyface · 18/11/2011 21:14

Santa is a glorified FEDEX man here too :o

We pay, we get the name on the ticket! They have never questioned it!

schroeder · 18/11/2011 21:16

Father Christmas fills the stockings and gives them and an annual.

Everything else is from a real person.

NinkyNonker · 18/11/2011 21:18

Santa only brought little presents in our stocking (well, pillow case)...tree presents were always from people.

iwouldgoouttonight · 18/11/2011 21:23

If Santa brings the stocking presents and the big presents are from family, etc. how does it work when the DCs write a letter to Santa? If they ask him for a list of things but they end up being from us?

Need to get our story straight because last year we were a bit vague and I'm sure DS started to see through it (he was only 4!)

MrsWembley · 18/11/2011 21:23

Gawd, I've touched a nerve here... never started a thread with so much traffic and so quickly too.Grin

Still discussing this with DP. Also discussing how I've undercooked his nachos... lazy bastard can do it himself next time

Father Chrismas gives all the little stocking presents. The one under the tree are from whoever.

Agree that 'santa as delivery man' thing is totally odd. Why would anyone send presents to get them back if someone else decided their children had been good?! Why not the parents just decide? Santa too involved in parental discipline IMO, weird.

I think this is a new thing. So do the children write a letter to the parents asking for stuff?

skybluepearl · 18/11/2011 21:25

Santa leaves a stocking only. We all give main Xmas tree gifts. Kids can then thank who ever gave gift.

LemonDifficult · 18/11/2011 21:25

'If Santa brings the stocking presents and the big presents are from family, etc. how does it work when the DCs write a letter to Santa? If they ask him for a list of things but they end up being from us?'

But surely you warn them that they won't get everything on the list, right? So problem solved!

FredFredGeorge · 18/11/2011 21:28

saphirefling It's not a hang up about father christmas taking credit, it's about not having to have the poor kid wonder why his parents didn't buy him anything.

GreenEyesandNiceHam · 18/11/2011 21:28

LemonDifficult 'odd' how very dare you! Grin

That's the way we do it, because that's the way my parents did it. And how my DHs parents did it as well like that matters a jot

DressingGownQueen · 18/11/2011 21:28

Its all santa here. That is just how it was when I was small so it is the only way for me.

RightUpMyRue · 18/11/2011 21:31

Santa brings stocking presents. Big pressies under the tree are from whoever bought them.

I refuse to read any of your above posts or any further ones because THATS THE WAY IT IS.

olibeansmummy · 18/11/2011 21:40

Here Santa brings stocking and other presents and mummy and daddy buy ds one big present. Other people give him presents personally as we will see both sets of grandparents, aunties and uncles on Christmas day.

MrsWembley · 18/11/2011 21:41

He's just read the thread. Now we're arguing whether more people agree with me or with him.

Hmm again.

iwouldgoouttonight · 18/11/2011 21:44

LemonDifficult - yes we warn him he won't get everything he asks for, but the thing he really wants is a bit too big to be a stocking present so it will go under the tree from us. So what do we say when he asks why Santa didn't bring it when he asked him for it??

BelleDameSansMerci · 18/11/2011 21:45

Father Christmas leaves small presents in a stocking, everything else comes from whomever it comes from.
