To be surprised at my friend not finding this out of order

Her DS's 15th birthday yesterday. Two of his friends brought to school a present of home made buns and 2 bottles of lager. She says they are nice kids although she has never met either them or their parents, and reckons they have probably got the lager from home rather than bought it themselves. (from the conversation that seems to be the first thing she thought of, not that they are only 15 nor that this took place at school.)

If this was my DS (who is 16 next week) I would not be pleased whether he was on the receiving end or giving end of this, but then perhaps I am old fashioned. AIBU??

Home made buns, eh? Hmm

valiumredhead · 18/11/2011 09:01

Be grateful it's just lager and not heroin Wink

valiumredhead · 18/11/2011 09:02

Ha ha ha ha I didn't see about the home made dope buns!

cjbartlett · 18/11/2011 09:02

aw I think it's sweet

TroublesomeEx · 18/11/2011 09:04

G0d now I know I'm getting old! I did think "what on earth is wrong with home made buns?!" Until I remembered what sort of buns teenage boys make... Grin

fluffy123 · 18/11/2011 09:04

yanbu that is a really odd combination.

TroublesomeEx · 18/11/2011 09:05

Clearly God, not G0d. I forgot I wasn't trying to get an email through DH's work's obscenity filter!

ENormaSnob · 18/11/2011 09:05

Space cakes?

bananamam · 18/11/2011 09:08

Wish my friends would give me that for my birthday Wink Grin

CailinDana · 18/11/2011 09:09

I think the more of an issue you make of drink with teenagers the more they'll be attracted to it. A bottle of beer for a 15 year old is fine IMO but then I'm Irish so my attitude to drink might differ a bit.

grovel · 18/11/2011 09:13

Well it is out of order but it's not cataclysmic in the big scheme of things. It's just a useful reminder that these boys are hitting the age when alcohol becomes the next big, cool thing. Vigilance time for your friend (and for you if your boy goes with the flow and does what his peers do).

The whole alcohol "thing" with teenagers is very tedious.

grovel · 18/11/2011 09:16

Incidentally, I agree with CailinDana's broad point about not being obsessive about alcohol in moderation (preferably in your company from time to time). De-mystify the stuff.

difficulttimes · 18/11/2011 09:54

tbh I'd actually find it quite funny.

molepom · 18/11/2011 09:57

I'd have found that funny too. and would have confiscated them until I have tested them enough to make sure they are safe

Hotpotpie · 18/11/2011 09:59

molepom exactly my thoughts he he

lottiegb · 18/11/2011 10:03

Did the DS share any of the buns with his mother? No? Was he giggling when he told her?

Mandy2003 · 18/11/2011 10:42

Wow, why does God come up on an obscenity filter?!!
