I'm sure some yoghurt knitters will say fuel should cost the same as unicorn milk, but for the people who live in the real world, please sign this.

YABU to refer to people as 'yoghurt knitters' and make assumptions about what they think.

YANBU to post the petition. Signed!

cost of lots of things causing lots of problems at the moment -I know we are skint -
but there is a reason why fuel is expensive -there are limited supplies of oil , plus climate change is real - and taxes on fuel is one way to combat it=
plus if fuel wasn't taxed as much as it is - either there will would be more cuts or higher taxes on other things -i so you would probably end up paying the same over all -

  • so YABU -plus why insult people?

I heard something on the radio this morning about this petition. It is reasonable for people to protest about this and I've signed it.

We spend more on a month for petrol than we do on gas & electricity.

Yes there is a finite amount of fuel, but this is a very small country, so the domestic drivers comsumption of petrol/diesel will be like a teaspoonful from a barrel compared to what industry and airlines etc use.

Petrol tax is approximately 160% of the cost of the fuel. Airlines pay no tax and no VAT on fuel. It's time that the government looked around for new sources of tax revenue.

Yoghurt knitters and unicorn milk made me Grin

agreee about airlines- although passengers are taxed which will have an impact on their income and what they can charge for tickets

Just looks up the data , just a quick google so maybe better data avaibly
Tranport is about 34% of use of energy in the UK - of which 60% is domestic travel - so assuming much of that is car use -which it is, domestic car use is a substantial proportion of UK enery use - say 15% - industry use is 25% so NOT a teaspoon in a barrel at all

"Petrol tax is approximately 160% of the cost of the fuel."

You want to look at the maths of that again? Grin
