It is really easy.

OPTION 1
just write the URL*and tick the little box at the bottom of posting box that says, "Convert links automatically"

www.mumsnet.com

OPTION 2

put before the URL* then leave a space, then write the word that you would like to appear then close with

so [°[°mumsnet . com Look at this on Mumsnet]° ] (without the °)

Look at this on Mumsnet

It makes it much easier when I can just click and follow a link without having to C&P.

And no, I have nothing better to worry about and yes, I know this is petty. And yes, I did preview this to make sure my links were working or this would have been embarrassing.

*an URL is the webpage address, such as www.mumsnet.com or www.linkingiseasy.co.uk

[[www.The link says 'no http'....so do I write www then the / ?

OneHandFlapping · 14/11/2011 12:52

Haha. I've been thinking of starting this self same AIBU for a while now, but apathy intervened.

The instructions for links are at the bottom of every page, alongside the smileys. You don't get people going, "I'm sorry, I don't know how to do smileys" so much do you? Smile

Thos of you who say you can't do links, what are you really saying here? That you can't follow a simple set of instructions? That you prefer to adopt an engagingly feminine incompetence with technology?

I think you should explain.

crazynanna · 14/11/2011 12:54

how about now?

MmeLindor. · 14/11/2011 12:55

Crazynanna
go to the link that you want to copy. Right click and select "copy" then come back here and right click and press "paste".

Then you can add the at the beginning and the at the end. Leave a space after the URL to add your own text.

Yes! I'm happy to learn Grin

secretly always thought it looked cool and wanted to know anyway

LordAlconleighsEntrenchingTool · 14/11/2011 12:56

YANBU. It gets on my nerves.

Posters who trill 'ooh I can't do links' are probably the same people who get in a flap about driving on a motorway and/or through London.

crazynanna · 14/11/2011 12:57

Woop Woop Grin
I only frigging did it! I did!
Now I can write clever little things in my linky thing Grin

Excellent, Bedbugs.

And a nice piece of PA MN linking, that was.

Okay an explanation. I now know how to do it on a pc but haven't worked out how to do it on an iPhone because the iPhone is so fiddly that I would need to set aside some time to really concentrate.

I do have a problem with instructions, when I read any instructions I have to translate them into my own language because without exception I never understand them straight off.

Yesterday I was trying to work out my wii fit age and it told me that I'm in my 70's! Not because I'm really unfit but because I don't understand the balance test because I'm incapable of following simple instructions!

BedBugsBeware · 14/11/2011 13:03

I am one smart lady - I've been trying to figure this for a while. (But I am a bloody good English teacher!)

MmeLindor. · 14/11/2011 13:08

Spugglers
I am not wanting you to feel bad about it, just to teach those who do struggle how to do it. Sorry if I sounded bossy.

On iPhone you do the same thing. Have you worked out how to C&P on the iPhone yet?

The are when you press 123 button then #+= button

And just do the same as you do on here.

Thank you Mme for showing me Smile

PigletJohn · 14/11/2011 13:12

YABU to expect everyone to be as clever as you.

spugglers · 14/11/2011 13:13

You haven't made me feel bad, I make myself feel bad Grin

I will try later. It is frustrating my 7 year old is more capable than me!

worraliberty · 14/11/2011 13:16

Oh fucking bollocks Sad

MmeLindor. · 14/11/2011 13:17

Spugglers
If it makes you feel any better, my DS runs rings around me on the Wii. And he beat me as Monopoly yesterday.

"testing" at the end, Worra.

And preview like I did
