WIBU to wear a light coloured coat today?

I am genuinely worried that I may have offended people. :(

Today, I laid a wreath on behalf of my friend's DH who was sadly killed in Afghanistan.

I have never been to a remembrance service before, so I wasn't really sure what the protocol is, IYSWIM.

I dressed smartly, wore a poppy and basically just followed what everyone else was doing, but the only smart coat I have is a sort of camel colour. Everyone else was wearing black/dark coats and I did get a few strange looks from people.

I am really unsure - WIBU to wear a light coloured coat today? I feel utterly awful and am worried that it seemed like I was disrespecting people.

YANBU - smart and wearing a poppy- job done.

I doubt the colour coat you were wearing would offend anyone!

I have been to lots of parades and in those not in uniform I am sure some of them were wearing coats which weren't black but I have never paid that much attention (other than to be envious how warm they look!)

The important thing is why you are there not what you are wearing.

If they were offended they were looking to be offended IMO.

I wouldn't say it was disrespectful at all.

It sounds as though you made a lot of effort to be smart and respectful. I wouldn't worry at all.

AND a pair of ooh la la long red stiletto boots
