No way was this hat (pic no 3 and 6 here what she meant to wear at the Cenotaph. It looks like a wedding hat!

Agreed. Bit too fussy for such an occasion imo.

PomBearAtTheGatesOfDoom · 13/11/2011 18:46

I thought she was hiding behid it so she could avoid having to talk to Kate and Camilla. (Or avoiding being pictured right beside Kate to avoid being compared to her, or she had a huge zit on her nose or something). That's a "comfort blanket" hidey hat if ever there was one!

TheMonster · 13/11/2011 18:47

It's not even suitable for a wedding. It's just plain wrong.

worraliberty · 13/11/2011 18:48

I can't see pic number 3 or 6?

But I'm more interested in wondering what the fuck Camilla's got on her head? It looks like a dead Emu.

scaevola · 13/11/2011 18:48

I thought she must have had a disaster which meant she couldn't wear at of choice, and that the one she had on was the least worst alternative.

Northernlurker · 13/11/2011 18:49

It is a wedding hat

here about third picture down!

OP posts:
worraliberty · 13/11/2011 18:49

Oh I can see it now

It looks like a dead pigeon

piratecat · 13/11/2011 18:50

bloody hell it looks like pigeon road kill

SparkleSoiree · 13/11/2011 18:50

Worraliberty - you made me laugh out loud!!

DogStinkhorn · 13/11/2011 19:21

Kates was spot on, I thought.

GrendelsMum · 13/11/2011 19:46

God, it does look just like pigeon road kill. I'm cycling past a patch on the road that looks like that every morning. And Camilla's does look like an emu, but I like her and her husband makes good shortbread, so I'll ignore that.

Kate's is good, though.

Why are Kate and the Queen wearing double poppies? Is this the new thing?

PomBearAtTheGatesOfDoom · 13/11/2011 19:51

Ooo not sure about the double poppies - for the Queen I'd have guessed it was to do with being head of the various forces herself and married to one, but Kate is only married to a serving airforce man. Or is she now head or patron of a regiment or two vice being Duchess of Cambridge? I'm intrigued now, this will nark me until I know!

scaevola · 13/11/2011 20:05

I don't think she's taken on any regiments yet, but will probably do so as the older members of the Firm reduce their active patronages (assuming that with all the mergers there are any left in want of a Colonel). Perhaps in due course the Squidgies?

Northernlurker · 13/11/2011 20:25

I've read somewhere that the poppies represent family members lost on active service. So for the queen that's her uncle the Duke of Kent who was killed when Prince Michael was only a baby - maybe Prince William of Gloucester - though I think that was a peacetime accident. At least one of Princess Beatrice's sons (Queen Victoria's daughter) died in WW1 as well

A1980 · 13/11/2011 20:38

It looked like a bloody satellite dish. Ridiculous.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 13/11/2011 20:42

WTF is this trend for walking alongside your hat? Looks bloody ridiculous

Northernlurker · 13/11/2011 20:46

It's a mystery to me. She wore it to the worst wedding of the year - why would you think it a good idea to get it out again?

OP posts:
PomBearAtTheGatesOfDoom · 13/11/2011 22:55

One of the Queen's will be for Lord Mountbatten maybe?
