I live in a set of terrance house. MY neighbours are very lovely but one neighbour has recently let me grown up son move back in. The thing is, he smokes hash, and quite a fair amount, atleast 4-5 times a day. He used to smoke in the back garden, but whenever I opened my back door it came in the house, and so I asked him to move to the end of the garden, which he did.

He has now started to smoke out by the front door Angry which now means that as I leave the windows in the bedrooms open, my little girls bedroom now smells like hash!!

I have had enough, he has people popping over for a smoke or to drop off his drugs :(

I know his not dealing, and using for personal use, but it stinks! can i do anything?

You could have a chat with your local community support officer.

lisad123 · 11/11/2011 11:38

thanks will see if they can help

Invite your neighbour round for a coffee & explain the problem. Say you don't want to have to involve the police but could he be a bit more discreet & do it away from the property as it is affecting your family.

Possession is illegal though, that's what they'd get him on. And if people are coming around for a smoke with him, technically that's dealing, even if money doesn't change hands. Even if he never gives any to other people, but has a large personal stash, they could get him on intent to supply..

Or so I believe..

I would report him mentioning the obvious odour of it in the street coming from the house and also make clear mention of the fact his dealer is dropping the stuff off to him regularly, may peak their interest even more IYSWIM.

I think you have already spoken politely as a neighbour and he is still not being considerate so personally I wouldn't go to them a second time.

CalmaLlamaDown · 11/11/2011 12:08

Don't involve the police! Just speak to him or drop a note around.

lisad123 · 11/11/2011 12:09

if i report him, shes bound to know its me, and we have always got on well. Im lothed to do it, but just so mad that my little girls bedroom smells like drugs :(

I'd just have another word with him because they can't even do him for posession unless he's actually got some in his pocket at the time.

He moved once, I'm sure he'll move again if he realises it's still bothering you Smile

droves · 11/11/2011 12:26

you could ask enviromental services to investigate what the smell is as its causing distress and making you unable to ventilate your house .

They will involve police if they find drugs ..

If you can smell it inside your house , then sorry but hes probably growing the stuff .

Elderberries · 11/11/2011 12:27

I really wouldn't shop him - think about your relationship with your neighbours? How are they going to react? Even if they don't know its you they will suspect.

Have a word with him or them and explain why it is a problem. If it then continues then go to some sort of authority.

lisad123 · 11/11/2011 12:29

Dont think he is growing it, only of his outside smoking does smell come in, plus his mum wouldn't let him, that much I do know. Grin
Will have another word I guess

I would talk to him first but if that dosent work try the CP - Cannabis is a class B drug - Illegal to posess even for personal use with up to 5 years in prison for having it. It's not okay to have tit for personal use - the law changed

snuffaluffagus · 11/11/2011 12:29

If he reacted positively the last time you had a word, just do the same again- ask him nicely to only smoke indoors or at the bottom of the garden, not near your house, I'm sure he will comply.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 11/11/2011 12:32

At least you know who it is so can speak to your neighbours/report.
I have no idea who smokes so much near me that you can smell it inside when the windows are shut!!
PS its not me Grin

worraliberty · 11/11/2011 12:34

He's not going to get up to 5yrs in prison for smoking a joint in his garden Hmm

He may get brought to court and fined if by chance he has a fair bit in his pocket and they search him...but to be honest, the chances of them arriving at the exact same time he's out there smoking, are slimmer than slim.

gordyslovesheep · 11/11/2011 12:37

I didn;t say he would - I said it carries UP TO five years in prison :)

I am simply pointing out that those who are saying that it is legal to have it for personal use are wrong - an important message as many of the young people I work with still believe it is class C and run the risk of a criminal record for having it.

EnjoyResponsibly · 11/11/2011 12:38

He seemed reasonable enough in moving before, so I would ask him again. If he or better his mum know your DDs can smell it in their room they may well be shamed into taking it indoors, or back to the bottom of the garden.

I'd honestly try that before talking to the police. You might be taking a sledgehammer to the walnut IYSWIM?

Hypothetically though, if someone else is holding a joint, while you smoke it, are they in possession rather than you...?
