To think that Ebay shouldn't allow Leather in the description of a cover that's plastic

So many sellers have covers listed for the new kindle that are blatantly titled as leather, describe themselves as leather, then some way down, say 'faux' leather or 'PU' leather.

PU is plastic. Faux leather is plastic. Leather is leather...nothing else. And if you put the word leather in your title it's blardy misleading.

I'll put my soapbox away now....grrrr....

Thanks Eupehemia, but there's so many of them...it's not an isolated thing. I did think about it, but it would be take me weeks to complain each listing. It's just the principle of the thing...

You can use 'advanced search' to exclude certain words from your search - i.e. - if you excluded 'faux' 'pu' or 'leatherette' then it would filter out a lot of the time wasting listings.

No use complaining to ebay - they ain't going to do diddly squat! In any event saying that something is 'faux' whatever is not against any law or rule!!

StopRainingPlease · 07/11/2011 08:34

I don't think "faux leather" is misleading at all, it says what it is - just like "faux fur", what on earth would you call that without using the word "fur".

StopRainingPlease · 07/11/2011 08:35

Oh and for many categories you can select the material it's made of from the filters on the left hand side.

FabbyChic · 07/11/2011 08:43

Its the sellers error nothing to do with eBay at all.

TotemPole · 07/11/2011 09:42

StopRainingPlease, faux/PU leather would be fine in the title, you could search for leather -faux/PU. But to have just leather, then that is misleading.

The one I just looked at says 'leather' many times then says faux leather once.

huffy, I think you can report the seller rather than each individual listing.

Ebay is strange. Yesterday I was searching girls gloves as wanted a pair of cream ones for DS (and nearly all boys are skull/dark) and I came across some 'sexy' long pvc gloves.

I didnt know they were de riguer for girls nowadays

Urgh this really irritates me on too! Nasty plastic items (such bad quality you'd hardly even call them faux leather) claiming to be leather and ugly polyester masquerading as "100 pure silk!' really make me mad!

DeWe · 07/11/2011 14:42

I think the ones that really irritate me is where they state "NOT something-that-I'm-trying-to-make-sure-you-pick-up-in-the-search-engine".

Although there was the "Absolutely gorgeous top: Must see" I clicked on once...
Turned out to be a rather scratty lime green fleece jacket for a toddler. "slightly marked and a bitt bobbly from the washing". Riiiight. Hmm

If they put faux leather in the title it's not great, but it's alright, but it's where they put leather, even genuine leather, then state later that it's faux leather or PU leather. There's no such thing as PU leather. If it's PU it's plastic. And, sadly, some people don't know that faux means fake, so people will be taken in by it. I figured I'd go by price, but there's even a bonkersley expensive PU leather cover!!!! I think perhaps I'm better off sticking with Amazon for it :)
