by exaggerating how much the fireowrks upset our dog? Dh and Dd have merrily gone off in the freezing cold to watch a bonfire and fireworks show and I stated that I would stay home to sit with the doggie as he doesn't like fireworks.

In truth he is fast asleep at my feet, I am working my way through a bottle of wine and watching Strictly Come Dancing

YANBU - but really if you don't want to go out you should be able to just say "I don't fancy it" and not have to make excuses.

But he might not be asleep if he were home alone, he might be barking and howling and upsetting the neighbours so you were wise to stay home.

YANBU but agree just say you don't want to go in future, I do and it doesn't hurt

Well I say I'm not going because someone needs to cat sit, but we all know that isn't true. We have the most "bomb" proof cats possible, they're still asking to go back out

Though I DO have to go out in the garden with him when he needs a wee. bless him.

YABU, think of the poor dog, he's been characterized as a big wimp in front of your DP and DD, they'll probably stop taking him to the park to run about in case he's frightened of other noises. His doggy friends will hear about it and stop respecting him, his self esteem will plummet and he'll probably end up lonely and alone with you as his only person willing to stand with him when he wees.

I'm not going out because I just had to make a beef stew, to freeze for mid-week meals. 15 mins prep and hours in the oven No way could it be done tomorrow.
