To be considering buying something from Boden?

Ten years I've been a Mumsnetter, and I still haven't worked it out: is Boden OK, just naice expensive clothes, or are they somehow the badge of something shameful, and wearing them will brand me forever?

(And in any case, being a size 20/22, is there even any point trying to wear Boden?)

I was going to say "Next!"

But I didn't want to look like we were endorsing their clothing Grin

Bogeymanface · 04/11/2011 00:24

:o:o

Bogeymanface · 04/11/2011 00:24

My first thought when I read the OP was "YABU...NEXT!!" but I had exactly the same thought :o

PrettyCandles · 04/11/2011 00:34

"Worras right. Then you can go to theme parks instead of educational forestry centres, eat greggs for lunch washed down with fruit shoots and grab a bucket from KFC on the way home instead of organic hummus with crudite.
You will be much happier "

I don't understand!

I'm not going for beige or matchy-matchy, definitely not White linen trousers (though I quite like chintz - in furniture). I like the look of the retro dresses, but I'd never wear them. And the prices in my promo catalogue are comparable to M&S.

We went to Disneyland this summer and we like hummus.

At half-term I had KFC for the first time in nearly 30y. It was minging! Just as foul as 30y ago. Two of the dc wouldn't eat it, and the third only ate because she was ravenous.

Does this mean that I'm a natural Bodenite?

No, I think it means you are confused!

hmmm...

OK, answer the following Qs

Do you refuse to serve unhealthy food at your childrens parties because you fear being judged by the other parents?

Do you hover over your child are other parties saying "Oh look darling! Crudite and olives, your favourite! You dont like those horrid crisps do you?"?

Do you buy delivery pizza, supermarket cook-at-home pizza or make your own?

Do you have a panic attack if you spot that your child is wearing odd socks when you are out and about?

Do you have a panic attack if you spot that your child is wearing odd socks at home?

Do you buy homeware from the Market Place in Ikea?

No.

Do you hover over your child are other parties saying "Oh look darling! Crudite and olives, your favourite! You dont like those horrid crisps do you?"?
No need - they all love olives. And crisps.

Do you buy delivery pizza, supermarket cook-at-home pizza or make your own?
Yes, yes, and yes.

Do you have a panic attack if you spot that your child is wearing odd socks when you are out and about?
The merest twinge, swiftly extinguished by a major attack of CBA.

Do you have a panic attack if you spot that your child is wearing odd socks at home?
Child wearing socks at home? What is this thing of which you speak?

Do you buy homeware from the Market Place in Ikea?
I have in the past, immediately post-first-house-purchase. Our current dinner service, however, is Vileroy and Boch. (And we won't be buying another dinner service, ever!)

Right, having thoroughly collated your answers I have come to the conclusion that you are a middle class person from working class roots and therefore have a terrible clash of classes going on in your head.

Your middle classness tells you that you should be wearing boden and eating olives, but your working classness tells you that you should be eating crisps and making things last.

So dont buy Boden. It wont last and you will feel not quite comfy in it. Buy what you normally buy and spend what you save on a better class of olive and crisps. (olive flavour crisps? would solve it at a stroke.......) :o

PrettyCandles · 04/11/2011 06:54

Olive flavour crisps - genius!

OP posts:
Becaroooo · 04/11/2011 07:00

Oh no.

Not Boden.

You will look like a madder, tweedier version of yourself

PrettyCandles · 04/11/2011 07:15

Kalamata olive flavour crisps!

OP posts:
josephinebonaparte · 04/11/2011 07:25

And shout " Freddie, Archie, Jemima, Annabel" all day across a windswept north Norfolk beach in a braying voice. The children ate all wearing matching "beach throw ons".not bitter at all

sue52 · 04/11/2011 07:40

YABU There is nothing on the website worth buying this season. I fancy the sound of olive flavour crisps.

NinkyNonker · 04/11/2011 07:45

Oh fgs. Like any other brand, if you like it, and can afford it, buy it. I really don't get it.

2blessed2bstressed · 04/11/2011 07:47

The general rule of thumb for me is - if you like it and you can afford it, buy it. It doesn't matter what the label says....or the people on here Smile

startwig1982 · 04/11/2011 07:51

I love Boden and am very sad that I can't buy anything from this season as I'm on ml. SadSad that being said, I am a middle class snob but DS is only 5mo and hasn't tried olives yet. Grin

QuintessentialShadow · 04/11/2011 08:31

Do you refuse to serve unhealthy food at your childrens parties because you fear being judged by the other parents?
No - a party is a party. People dont build long lasting food habits on party food.

Do you hover over your child are other parties saying "Oh look darling! Crudite and olives, your favourite! You dont like those horrid crisps do you?"?
No - Parties are the only time my kids eat crisps. They get enough olives at home!

Do you buy delivery pizza, supermarket cook-at-home pizza or make your own?
I cook my own sometimes. I like parma ham, sundried tomatoes, and olives. (Waitrose and Sainsbury has nice pizza, I sometimes buy their pizza. Never asda. it is vile and taste of mouldy cardboard)

Do you have a panic attack if you spot that your child is wearing odd socks when you are out and about?
No. Mine do on occasion. (bad mum me)

Do you have a panic attack if you spot that your child is wearing odd socks at home?
Yes, I of course break out in a cold sweat and run and hide in the attic. (Of course not)

Do you buy homeware from the Market Place in Ikea?
I bought all my pots and pans from there! My dinnerset is from Asda. All white clean lines. Glassware from Ikea. (I like cheap, me! Grin )

Does this answer your questions?

bananamam · 04/11/2011 08:41

Boden is horrible. I just don't get it. I see kids wearing it and I know it's boden, which I guess is the idea. Then I watch them play in mud, and think what a waste of money!!! All kids clothes(mostly) are play clothes. I am technically(if there is such a thing) middle class, but hate the stereotypes of it. My kids mostly wear second hand clothes as do I!!

Bogeymanface · 04/11/2011 08:44

Quint, you are definitely non-Bo :o

LydiaWickham · 04/11/2011 09:05

Boden got me when I was on maternity leave, I'd never been in contact with them, or bought anything from them, but I suddenly got a catalogue through the post to me. Still not sure what it was I signed up for that gave them the heads up that there was a 30-something mum living outside the M25 who didn't get their catalogue already...

I've got a couple of things from them in the sales, but not got anything full price. They are over priced because they can afford to cut the prices so dramatically in the sale. Which dress is it? (link please) If it's not too 'Boden', go for it. Just be warned, if you don't need to wear it in the next few weeks, you might be better off waiting until the sale starts.

Acinonyx · 04/11/2011 09:10

I keep receiving the catalogue and I look through and turn over pages - but I have never bought anything - yet.

I am confused though. I do actually own a pair of white linen trousers. Dh has a hat, birkenstocks and chinos (not necessarily worn all at once). I serve 70s style party-food but make my own pizza. Dd would never wear odd socks - she's very particular about her clothes.

I'm half-way there - caught between my fried egg & chip roots and my home-made pizza and olive eating aspirational present. Should I just go the whole hog and order some Boden? I quite like some of it......

coraltoes · 04/11/2011 09:39

Which adult in their right mind would wear Boden?! Especially the prints!!!!! If you want comfy casual try Gap, if you want to look like a fool try body paint. Just not bloody Boden.

What shoes do Boden women wear??? I am curious now...a mid heel Chelsea boot? Or or or deck shoes!!! It's deck shoes isn't it. Oh fuck me.

heleninahandcart · 04/11/2011 10:47

Can I turn myself in?

My first Boden order is upstairs.

It is all going back, but it includes a tweed mini skirt which I keep trying on and liking the look of.

Is this what it has come to?

heleninahandcart · 04/11/2011 10:54

This is the skirt tweed shame

How bad is it. I can take it
