Video uploaded by daughter. (GRAPHIC) daughter uploads vid of father beating her.this was posted on reddit, and getting posted everywhere else on the intanets. fans of physical discpline, no ?

I am spitting mad! I don't care if this thread turns into a 'to hit or not to hit your child' thread. It should be illegal, there is NO excuse! indiscipline your child the correct way.

This 'father' needs to do time. Serious time. As the useless mother.

Here is the story.

"2004: Aransas County Court-At-Law Judge William Adams took a belt to his own teenage daughter as punishment for using the internet to acquire music and games that were unavailable for legal purchase at the time. She has had ataxic cerebral palsy from birth that led her to a passion for technology, which was strictly forbidden by her father's backwards views.

The judge's wife was emotionally abused herself and was severely manipulated into assisting the beating and should not be blamed for any content in this video. The judge's wife has since left the marriage due to the abuse, which continues to this day, and has sincerely apologized and repented for her part and for allowing such a thing, long before this video was even revealed to exist. Judge William Adams is not fit to be anywhere near the law system if he can't even exercise fit judgement as a parent himself. Do not allow this man to ever be re- elected again. His "judgement" is a giant farce. Signed, Hillary Adams, his daughter.

The idea that the mother was protecting the daughter is beyond disgusting.

She was a willing participant.

spiderpig8 · 04/11/2011 11:49

i think she smacked her once, so she could say look she's been spanked -done, and stop the out-of -control father whacking any part of her he could whilst she was on the floor.

The idea that the mother was protecting the daughter is beyond disgusting.
Of course it is, because it is disgusting and very, very sad that a mother would see that as "protection". I do not intend to say that the mother was protecting her daughter. But I think that the mother may have (in her very disturbed sense of the world) thought she was protecting her daughter as best she can.
Obviously we can't know what really went on in that house, and what degree of abuse the mother herself was enduring at that man's hands. An abused person who abuses is not absolved of all responsibility. But one of the complexities of abuse is the way that primary abusers can make others complicit in the abuse. So I do allow for the possibility that the mother was acting in what she thought was her child's best interest. Disgusting as that is.

he was apparently trying to get custody of the now 10 yr old younger sister, which is probably what prompted Hilary to release the video. She soesn't want her to have to suffer the same abuse.

Bluddy-i think it said there is a 5 yr statute of limitation, so they can't prosecute him.

HeresTheThingBooyhoo · 04/11/2011 16:05

i'm not sure i understand this 5 year thing. surely the very fact that children can't speak out as children should mean the law should enable them to speak out and get justice as an adult?

Andrewofgg · 04/11/2011 16:19

The law of limitation is different from State to State. In England for serious offences there is none. That can work injustice too - although not in this case! If Texas has a five year limitation for this offence - well, there it is.

The priorities are first that the younger child is safe; second that he's off the Bench; third, that the girl he beat and the wife are safe and getting help; and fourth, that he too gets the help he obviously needs.

SardineQueen · 04/11/2011 16:26

What is the point of a statute of limitation?

HeresTheThingBooyhoo · 04/11/2011 16:38

probably to stop overcrowding in prisons sardine.

SardineQueen · 04/11/2011 16:38

That is a joke? I guess?!

There must be a "proper" reason.

HeresTheThingBooyhoo · 04/11/2011 16:39

and save the state money. liek everthying else boils down to.

HeresTheThingBooyhoo · 04/11/2011 16:40

yes there probably is a proper reason. im just being a bit cynical about a law that doesn't allow an abused child to get justice.

SardineQueen · 04/11/2011 16:48

I don't think they worry too much about incarcerating people in the US.

SardineQueen · 04/11/2011 16:48

Well, as long as they're black, anyway.

spiderpig8 · 04/11/2011 17:37

they aren't black are they?

Andrewofgg · 04/11/2011 17:37

Limitation is so that eventually stale matters can't be brought up. Not appropriate here; entirely appropriate in e.g. motoring cases where the limit is six months.

Yellowstone · 04/11/2011 17:42

The rationale behind limitation has a lot to do with the value of evidence so long after the event.

Andrew the motives behind posting the video at this stage look muddied, not that that alters the nature of the attack.

Yellowstone · 04/11/2011 17:45

Cross-posted.

Andrewofgg · 04/11/2011 18:26

Yellowstone I agree about the value of the evidence; but where there is a bright-line limitation - such as the one I mentioned about motoring - the evidence can be as clear as crystal and it won't matter.

In any event when a young woman of 22/23 does not want a prosecution for events seven years ago I see no point.
