I am spitting mad! I don't care if this thread turns into a 'to hit or not to hit your child' thread. It should be illegal, there is NO excuse! indiscipline your child the correct way.

This 'father' needs to do time. Serious time. As the useless mother.

Here is the story.

"2004: Aransas County Court-At-Law Judge William Adams took a belt to his own teenage daughter as punishment for using the internet to acquire music and games that were unavailable for legal purchase at the time. She has had ataxic cerebral palsy from birth that led her to a passion for technology, which was strictly forbidden by her father's backwards views.

The judge's wife was emotionally abused herself and was severely manipulated into assisting the beating and should not be blamed for any content in this video. The judge's wife has since left the marriage due to the abuse, which continues to this day, and has sincerely apologized and repented for her part and for allowing such a thing, long before this video was even revealed to exist. Judge William Adams is not fit to be anywhere near the law system if he can't even exercise fit judgement as a parent himself. Do not allow this man to ever be re- elected again. i think the mum was protecting her, she said she already spanked her so the dad didnt get involved, and then she made the girls turn over and took the belt of dad to spank her once to stop him spanking her with the fury he was, to get him off her case?

I find it staggering that he shows no remorse whatsoever. The daughter says this is typical of him though, that he cannot accept that he is ever wrong.

The interview I read said the beating was for her use of the internet to download stuff illegally when her father strongly disapproved of computers and the internet.

I was horrified to watch it and completely stunned when he was yelling that his intention was to "beat her in to submission".

What scared me was that she didnt cry.

When they left the room she didnt collapse and sob as you would expect. She just got up, maybe threw up (not sure, or if she just coughed) and went downstairs as she was told.

Spud if he truly believes that what he did was right, and he is as arrogant as he appears to be then I am glad that he is standing up for what he did.

A fake expression of remorse could work in his favour, but his total inability to consider that he did anything wrong and has no shame whatsoever, will work against him and mean that he will get what he deserves. Well, he wont, because what he deserves is what he gave her, but ykwim.

on that interview with hilary and her mother, i didn't get the impression the mother was accepting any responsibility for her part in it. i think she's done a real number on that girl.

She was a child under his control, she COULDNT get him arrested when it happened for the fear of what would happen if no one believed her!

watched this earlier today, and it was one of the most horrible things i have ever seen. Also horrible - there was a younger child in he video; the dad puts her out of the room before he starts the beating. So who knows what both those kids went on to endure for years even after this was made.

I do not say this in defense of the mother, precisely (and she made a laughable statement yesterday herself - about how she hopes they can all get family counselling together and 'heal' - gag!) - but I rather thought that she did what she did as a (completely insufficient and inexcusable and totally warped) way of 'helping' her daughter. That she took the belt off the dad and hit the daughter once herself in a vain attempt to keep the dad from his even more violent assault. I don't know, and maybe it doesn't matter - but that was how I read it. Women will do that - punish or abuse the kid themselves to avoid 'worse' abuse by the primary abuser. It just makes it heartbreaking in a whole other way.

Don't get me wrong, I think both parents should be punished in extremely hideous ways.

And every case that judge sat on should be re-examined.

brdgrl, yes, nailak mentioned that earlier and it's something i hadn't considered but i think you may be right about the mother taking over the 'discipline' in the hope that it would satisfy the dad that he didn't need to do any more but clearly that sick man wasn't content with her getting 1 spank on her bottom. he really wanted to hurt her and

Did you read the bit about his previous comments on a child abuse case? Children's evidence should be ignored as they are largely fantasists? (something like that anyway)

It's in today's Times and she is asking for love and support for the man saying he needs help. I can only feel humble.

he does need help. but the children he is supposed to be providing justice for need protected from him. this man does not see children as people with rights, how can he possibly be expected to uphold those rights in a court?

Watched the video it was sickening that poor excuse for a father certainly enjoyed beating his poor daughter and i would go as far as to say he got a sexual thrill from it, as he was not content with hitting her a few times he kept coming back in the room to do it again, and kept thinking of something else to scream at her so he could add another few hits, sick bastard, and the mother seemd quite happy to stand and watch!! What was also sad was that the girl didnt plead with her mother to get her father to stop, which makes me think she knew it would be pointless to do that, and therefore i think these beatings were a regualer thing that both parents enjoyed participating in, Vile people,

yes i think his daughter has handled/is handling this all really well. she clearly isn't out for revenge. she didn't release it just before his re-election campaign. she knows it's too late for her to get a prosecution. she doesn't want to damage him. i honestly think she released the video footage as a last resort to show him how wrong his behaviour is so that he will get help. not sure if he will. he seems very arrogant and confident that he didn't do anything wrong, but you can't blame her for trying. if dont have hope we have nothing. perhaps she is hoping for a reconcilition?

Agree with you about mother - her own abuse as a child does not excuse her - nor does his if there was any which is all too probable. Cycle of abuse and all that.

Did you notice that she cried more when he was yelling at her , than spanking her.She is absolutely terrified of him, with just cause.
He was out od control flailing about with that belt whilst she was twisting and wriggling about, he could have done her some serious damage, and it sounded as though he was banging her head against the wall too and telling her what would happen if she 'as much as looked at him funny'. IMO this was a beating and a terrorising,not a spanking.
.If he had been calm and said you have done such and such and earned yourself x no of whacks and then we'll wipe the slate clean, waited she was in position and administered the smacks and then hugged her, i could have seen it as a concerned parent disciplining their child. i would have thought it very harsh and cruel and wouldn't have agreed with it, but would have appreciated different places have different customs and many of us remember canings and strappings happening in uk schools.

Susie-I am not sure about him getting a thrill, I do think in his job he has seen lots of people go bad and is very frightened or his daughter going the same way.In a very very misguided way thinks raining down fire and brimstone on her and making her terrified of taking a step out of line is the only way of controlling her.
