To wonder what's with all the bingo adverts on day time tv?

I'm still on maternity leave so am watching more day time tv than I should and I'm really surprised at the amount of adverts for online bingo games. Its clear that women are the target audience of most of these ad's. Do people really use these websites? Is this a fairly new thing? I don't remember seeing adverts like this until fairly recently, at least not this many and I watched a lot of crap tv as a student. AIBU to wonder when gambling started to be seen as a fun harmless activity?

I'm on ML too and it drives me mad. Those and 'payday loans' manybe to pay for the bingo habbit!!

I agree! I never thought so many people would be playing bingo online. What is the point of it? There must be some serious gambling addiction going on. And, generally speaking, most people who are at home in the day and therefore not working, surely can't afford an internet gambling hobby?

PickleSarnie · 31/10/2011 12:21

At least there are also lots of daytime adverts for payday loans should one get carried away on the bingo.

I used a up a free trial on Sun(I think) Bingo a few years ago. You could automate playing, so you just sat there doing nothing and watched the game.

I didn't see the point.Confused

The fun of bingo is the giant markers and seeing old ladys give you the cats bum face when you win.
Bet you don't get that online

Agree about online bingo. Got a free trial with nectar vouchers last year. All automated & boring as feck. We won £42, collected it & never darkened the website again.
Holiday camp bingo, however, rocks Grin

I think these sites have chat functions and people are attracted to them for that as much as anything. Hence advertising during the day when you've got an audience who are more likely to be bored/lonely/have time on their hands. If you watch the ads, they do try and emphasise the social side of the sites.

Yes to the payday loan ads! Those companies really are immoral. Does no one read the small print? Most of them have over 1000% APR.

Cant the bored people go on Facebook if they want a chat? Or they could post on a forum similar to ours but a bit more sparkly where online bingo might be more popular? They could set up a bingo addicts support group to get them off Paddy Power!
