To think that if you hit my car and cause damage..

You shouldn't leave you car there, actually touching my bumper so I can take photos and report you to the police and insurance companies etc?

Went for 12 week scan, parked up in a residential street, not many cars about as 1 hour parking restrictions, was gone about 45 minutes, came back to car and there is a great big estate actually parked behind me touching my bumper!!! Luckily I managed to get out of the space as there was a car around 10 inches parked in front of my car, pulled up on the other side of the road to inspect the damage etc and they have actually scratched and dented my bumper!!

How dense do you have to be to leave your car at the scene of the crime?!

Is it possible that someone else had rammed into the back of their car, knocking it into yours, and the driver of the car who hit yours is not even aware of it?

worraliberty · 31/10/2011 11:35

Good point Squeaky

OP have you checked the back of the other car?

MrsVoltar · 31/10/2011 11:35

Agree, very possible squeaky

barrysnotter · 31/10/2011 11:38

I can see what you are saying squeaky but there was a full skip there already so I would have thought they just parallel parked very badly! Either that or I was parked 'in their space' and they didn't like it.

Yes I checked the back of the offending car and no damage, I actually took photos of the back of both cars.

YABU. Not everyone wants to do a runner if they damage someone else's car.

barrysnotter · 31/10/2011 11:50

Yes you are right Jenai - They should have left a note, and maybe reversed back a bit, bit of a shock to come back to that. What made it worse was the struggling to get out of the space due to the other car parked in front. (I have a huge car)

They should have reversed it - you're right there. Although maybe they wanted to make it clear that you'd been hit Confused

Might they have nipped off to get a pen and paper?

I take it the handbrake hadn't failed (although if that'd happened it wouldn't have caused much damage and the car would have rolled off when you drove away).

I am being far too reasonable Grin

Some people are shitheads aren't they!

barrysnotter · 31/10/2011 11:58

The thing is Jenai I got back to the car, it is quite a quiet road, beeped my horn a couple of times when I thought I wouldn't be able to get out of the space, they were obviously in one of the houses, as there were plenty of other spaces the other side of the skip - Anyway I left them a shitty note, told them I had photos and would be reporting them to the police etc, I also left my phone number and....no calls.

Did they have damage or paint on the front of their car?

VivaLeBeaver · 31/10/2011 12:56

Unfortunately they're probably going to deny it. Yes you have photos but it doesn't prove who was there first and who went into who. They might well say you hit them. Some people are gits like that.

VivaLeBeaver · 31/10/2011 12:58

And your insurance co will probably be useless. I got hit while parked up by someone who reversed into the side of my car. Now seeing as the damage was on the side of my car and the back of his and I was stationary you'd think it would be open and shut. But he argued it and said I drove behind him while he was reversing and my insurance co told me to agree to 50/50. Luckily I managed to find three witnesses at that point..........Wink

bemybebe · 31/10/2011 13:04

I agree regarding insurance company being useless here. My mirror was smashed when passing another car in the narrow passage. He should have stopped and let me pass as he did not have enough space, but instead he drove too close and the mirror was smashed. He did not stop, just drove off. I didn;t think of asking the van behind to act as a witness, i was so shocked.

The insurance company said they view this incident as 50/50, the damage was 60£ only but i dred to see how much my premium will go up as a result of this accidnet.
