I bought a Mary Berry Christmas cake mix from tesco earlier in the week when it was cooked according to the instructions it cake out burnt... Yuck. So as my son wanted this cake for his grandad we went and bought another mix started all over again and same thing burnt.... Bloody hell. I have tested my oven and even cooked another mary Berry cake mix and no problems. This mix is not cheap and each mix cost me £10 !! I know madness plus a pack of butter and 4 eggs each time. So am I being unreasonable to expect a refund ????

Haven't read the whole thread but we made one too and it tastes blooming great.
£3 bargainacious

Marilyn1980 · 24/12/2011 14:03

Mine is in the oven now, got it for £1 yesterday. No-one in the house but me likes Christmas cake so if it's crap I won't be wasting much money, don't forget to count the brandy that the fruit is soaked in. £1 for muffin mix too you say? I wonder if Tesco will still have some after Christmas.

I usually bake from scratch but am a student midwife and have been on placement with essays and two children, this took 30mins to get ready.

YABU

learn to bake, keep a eye on the cake, and stop being such a drama queen,

if you knew the 1st one burnt them you should have kept a better eye on it,

and buying some value mixed fruit and a bag of flour and some brown sugar would be WAY cheaper than buying a mix

valiumredhead · 24/12/2011 14:45

You said 'mix' gothic!!! Shock

TheAnnoyingSatsuma · 24/12/2011 16:09

There's a thread on Money Saving Expert about them (they got reduced to £2) and everyone there seemed happy with the end result cakes.

Where are the £1 ones from Marilyn?
I love them, they're lovely just to have as a normal fruit cake!

TheAnnoyingSatsuma · 24/12/2011 21:16

i cut DD's cake today and it was very nice.

Marilyn1980 · 25/12/2011 00:02

it was a big end shelf display in Tesco, shedloads left. Cake is now iced and looking gorgeous!, I had a cheeky wee nibble of the cake and it's fine
