AIBU to think that a bed should be sturdy enough to sleep in?

We bought our bed from some acquaintances for £70. Bog standard pine bed frame - our new mattress. Bed frame collapsed after three weeks, and not through any fun misuse, before anyone says so Wink.

I told my aquaintance who sold it to us (sold as "in perfect condition"), and she said "Well - it lasted us 6 years so you must have been doing something wrong to break it, or been too heavy"

Yeah - like sleeping in it. I weigh 9 stone and my partner weighs 12, so we haven't CRUSHED it to death, surely??

Cheap pine slat beds are not really very long lasting or strong.

Sounds odd

Was it taken apart and put back together when it was moved from one house to the other?

TickettyBoo · 29/10/2011 22:56

Lol, woodworm?

YANBU, was clearly near to breaking point, although in fairness your aquaintance may not have known this.

Just, Grin !

Grin a bit too, as breaking the bed suggests a private life we don't have, but a bit annoyed that currently we have a mattress on the floor suurounded by bed frame bits, and my dad Blush is coming to fix it, and reinforce it...

we spent 3 years on a mattress on the floor after our bed slats broke..

disclaimer.. we were newlyweds at the time Grin

we then got a divan, with a nice base with drawers.... that lasted a year until DH did his flying superman impression and splattered it....

so it was back to a mattress on the floor until we could afford a new, more expensive, stronger bed Grin

plus DH is now way too old to be doing superman :)

Maybe we need to embrace student living again Smile. Thing is, we had a matress on the floor until our son was 5, then a futon type sofa bed - I thought we were graduating to a real bed, now we are thirty somethings...who says aspiration doesn't exist...Grin

Seriously you bought a second hand bed and expected it to last?

It already had six years of use it was going to fall to bits at any time just so happened after you got it. One of those things.

Cathycomehome · 29/10/2011 23:11

Well, it did look nice and came highly recommended by its previous owners! Maybe I can get the sofa bed back from the tip...
