To put a polite note on the door for trick or treaters?

I'm knackered and desperately need an early night. I also have a DD who goes to bed at 6:30 and a dog that barks whenever someone knocks on the door.

AIBU to put a note on the door (accompanied by a box of sweets) saying something along the lines of 'please don't knock, sleeping baby etc, but help yourselves to sweets. (Obviously leaving some for the next people to come along).'?

Or might I end up with angry children because the first greedy guzzlers will have taken all the sweets?

I'd just turn all of the lights off and go to bed. You could put a note up saying 'please come back on Monday' if you wish Wink

I'm going to leave a bowl of humbugs and hope someone picks up on the subtle word/festival/irony-play.

Bah.

I'd read all the other threads that have been done to death over the past 2 weeks!

Sorry OldGrey wasn't aware it had been done to death. I was just asking Hmm

Do you mean for tonight OP? It's not Halloween til Monday - if anyone rings my doorbell tonight they will get short shrift!

ChooChooWowWow · 29/10/2011 16:34

That was a bit mean OldGrey Why not just hide the thread?.

op round here people only knock if you have pumpkin out. I was shopping today and the fire brigade were giving "please don't knock here" posters out.
I think if you stick a sign up people will respect it. If you turn all your lights out they will probably stay away anyway.

I'm never sure! Don't they sometimes do it on a Saturday so it's not a school night?

disconnect door bell

I like Halloween as we get to see our neighbours (call me old fashioned but I thought we all wanted to live in "communities").
