It makes my teeth bleed.

OP posts:
LadyEvilEyes · 28/10/2011 17:38

From what I gather Dee has her own personal reasons for using the name.
Why anybody would let something so innocuous bother them that they would start a thread about it is beyond me.
I don't have anybody in my life at the moment, I think I may start a thread about having a noshapewhatsoever.

LadyWord · 28/10/2011 17:40

I hate it too, but I'll squirm less now that I know Deemented has a particular reason to use it.

There are often threads about words we love or loathe, I don't think there's anything wrong with saying it. You don't actually have to use your pet name for your partner in your posts (you could say DP, husband etc if you don't want to use DH), so if you choose to, I think it's fair enough for people so find it offputting.

If I referred to my DP on here by the name I call him I would expect, and accept all kinds of "BOAK!" threads.

SauvignonBlanche · 28/10/2011 17:41

I loath the term but wouldn't start a thread about it.

GothAnneGeddes · 28/10/2011 17:42

Manshape is a crap word and saying so is fair comment. It makes me think of an Action Man figure gone wrong. YANBU.

alistron1 · 28/10/2011 17:42

Dear lord. These manshape threads are more regular than my periods.

As an aside, the word 'manshape' always reminds me of an incredibly scary short story called Man sized in Marble'... I'd recommend it as a hallowe'en read [hgrin]

diddl · 28/10/2011 17:45

"poor deemented having to defend this again and again

really are people that bored they have to start yet another thread picking on this poor poster??"

Of course she doesn´t have to defend it, nor is she being picked on.
Some people don´t like the term & it has nothing to do with any particular poster.
It really is that simple!

HappyMoleDeletedByEvilMole · 28/10/2011 17:49

So we are agreed then?

Some like it

Some don't

The word moist should be taken out of circulation

Glad that was cleared up

Here's a fluffy <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=naked+burt+reynolds&hl=en&sa=X&biw=1366&bih=667&tbm=isch&prmd=imvnso&tbnid=jt1OHqHhlGn0SM:&imgrefurl=www.adrants.com/2007/02/burt-reynolds-gets-naked-again-send-him-a.php&docid=uPk_swacQKDAdM&imgurl=www.adrants.com/images/burt_reynolds_directv.jpg&w=1373&h=641&ei=edyqTqu-CsGp8AOA54S4Cw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=160&vpy=165&dur=1579&hovh=153&hovw=329&tx=176&ty=69&sig=112244834480774415178&page=1&tbnh=124&tbnw=209&start=0&ndsp=18&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">treat for you

GalloweesG · 28/10/2011 17:50

It doesn't bother me at all, but then my favourite words are all sweary or dodgy so Manshape isn't going to affect me one way or the other.

I would however, like to know the story behind it. If its not too much trouble.

EmpressOfTheZombieDucks · 28/10/2011 17:54

HappyMole, that nearly made MY teeth bleed!
GalloweesG, it's further up the thread.

worraliberty · 28/10/2011 17:57

poor deemented having to defend this again and again

That's rubbish

If she were 'poor' or felt she had to defend herself again and again she'd simply top tapping the word on her keyboard in a public forum.

She continues to type it and that's her right

Some people continue to hate it and that's their right to comment.

She probably loves the attention...or at least she doesn't dislike it enough to understand why other people find it a horrible sexist term.

alistron1 · 28/10/2011 18:00

I'm really confused as to why it's a horrible sexist term? Did I miss the explanation?

Sometimes, in jest, I refer to my DP as 'fuck knuckle' ... I wonder how that would go down here??!

NaughtyBusterAndTheBumFactory · 28/10/2011 18:00

Yes of course it's a general term and people can dislike it, but on here it is known widely for one reason/ one poster. If you know the reason why she uses it then I'm not sure why anyone would want to keep criticising. Just let it be, it's not hurting anyone in this case.

southeastastra · 28/10/2011 18:01

jeysus some people need to calm themselves down Grin

AFuckingKnackeredWoman · 28/10/2011 18:02

Ah Burt Reynolds. I have a secret soft spot for him[hblush]

worraliberty · 28/10/2011 18:05

But Naughty that's the thing this is a public forum and actually the amount of posters 'in the know' are very small compared to the amount of people who use Mumsnet.

I think for anyone assume the story behind it is widely known, is a bit narrow minded.

Also, even knowing the reason I still think it's a horrible thing to call your partner.

As I say, it's Dee's right to post the word but it's other's right to post to say they loathe it...if infact they do.

NaughtyBusterAndTheBumFactory · 28/10/2011 18:07

No but the reason has now been given so I'm not sure why it can't be left at that

KatAndKit · 28/10/2011 18:07

YANBU to have an opinion.

Y would be BU to expect others to act on it in this case.

TuftyFinch · 28/10/2011 18:10

I have a massive dislike of the word 'carpet', can't stand it, makes me want to scratch my eyes out. However, I wouldn't bother to start a thread about it. That is my right.

If you don't like the word 'manshape' don't use it. If you want to know the reason why a particular poster uses it why not try using the 'search talk' facility? I didn't know the history behind one person's use of this word either but it wasn't hard to find out.

Must go and vacuum my rug.

SpringHeeledJack · 28/10/2011 18:14

oh do we not like it because it's sexist??

oh I seeeeee

maybe should stop calling my chap Cocknose then

Lizzylou · 28/10/2011 18:15

C'mon it's friday, chillax, get moist, loosen your flange, vacuum your carpet.

In all honesty, it's not a term I love, but having read Dee's reasoning (over and over and over again as she defends herself every time one of these threads pops up) I understand. It makes perfect sense to her and I fully respect that.

Is it just me, or are there waay more threads started over the use of Manshape than the use of cunt or whatever? For some reason Manshape is far more offensive to some people?? Confused

EmpressOfTheZombieDucks · 28/10/2011 18:19

There isn't really a specific man shape or woman shape, is there? Roughly yes, but only roughly. Especially when you bring moobs into the equation.

Duck penises are corkscrew shaped.

TuftyFinch · 28/10/2011 18:19

lizzy stop using the word carpet. I now have to scratch my eyes out.

GuillotinedMaryLacey · 28/10/2011 18:19

Do you know what, I fucking hate people who cry "bandwagon-jumping" on every fucking thread. It's such a condescending, juvenile argument and far far worse than anything else mentioned on this thread.

SephreniaRidesABroomstick · 28/10/2011 18:21

I've always wondered what a manshape was. I mean, there's so many different shapes to people, it's hard to agree on one overall shape. Am I missing something here?

Lizzylou · 28/10/2011 18:22

CARPET! CARPET CARPET CARPET CARPET CARPET CARPET

Sorry Tufty, couldn't contain myself.

I dislike the use of Refusenik and Chez nous/poster's name, no idea why. Just do. BUT I'm really not that bothered enough to get het up over it.

I am intrigued over duck's corkscrew cocks though.
