and what sir humphrey said

gazundered · 28/10/2011 15:50

I don't find it offensive or anything really. But I am curious as to Dee's reasons. nosey

cantspel · 28/10/2011 15:51

It is not the fact that someone whats to refer to their partner as manshape.

People refer to their partners as all sorts of different and equally daft names. It is the fact that if a man used a similar term to refer to a woman 99% of you would be spitting feathers but it seems ok with mn regulars that it is ok to objectify a man.

AgentZigzag · 28/10/2011 15:51

I can't agree with you there chipping, anyone calling their DH 'hubby' should be made to give a full and frank explanation of themselves to a hostile audience...

Manshape reminds me of the milk tray man, mysteriously silhouetted bearer of chocs, what's not to like? Grin

ThisIsANickname · 28/10/2011 15:52

Oh! Oh! And I also hate people using the words "like" and "good" incorrectly.

And people who answer a question beginning with can, as in "Can I go to the bathroom," with "I don't know, can you?"

effingwotnots · 28/10/2011 15:53

I Like "manshape" (the word not the man, though I like him too).

I also don't mind 'hubby" though I'd never dare mention the word on MN...Blush

cyb · 28/10/2011 15:54

I agree with cantspel

TheScaryJessie · 28/10/2011 15:54

Then, there's: "I could care less".

OhdearNigel · 28/10/2011 15:55

Well, everyone seems to moan about everything here on Mumsnet so why not ? People get enough flack for talking about something that has already been discussed/threads about threads/using "nethuns" terminology. What makes the ghastly "manshape" so different.

And it's not some special term she's made up, I have never seen it on here before but have seen it in other places on the internet.

But what's the reeeeeeeason?? Have been on MN for over a year now and it is still a Great Mystery to me why dee calls her DH that.

TheOriginalFAB · 28/10/2011 15:56

Just because people wouldn't want to be described as womanshape doesn't mean Dee shoudn't manshape.

Angel786 · 28/10/2011 15:56

Makes me think of manscape Blush

SarahBumBarer · 28/10/2011 15:57

I haven't come across the word "manshape" or Dee either since the last time there was a thread on here moaning about the use of the word manshape.

Can we have some original threads please?

TheOriginalFAB · 28/10/2011 15:57

shouldn't use..

TheScaryJessie · 28/10/2011 15:58

FluffyCuddlyPomPomBear says hi!

DooinMeCleanin · 28/10/2011 15:59

Just search 'manshape' and 'AIBU' or 'teeth itch' it really, truely has been covered eleventy or twelvety million times before.

If Dee wants to explain herself again on this thread, that's upto her. If she is as bored of having to justify herself to the masses as I am of reading it, that is also upto her.

ThisIsANickname · 28/10/2011 15:59

TheScaryJessie yeah, that hacks me off too. And "should of" or "could of."

KatieMortician · 28/10/2011 15:59

YABU and a bit of a twit.

You'd have an aneurism if you found out what I call my dh in RL...

cornycabana · 28/10/2011 15:59

'makes my teeth bleed' is very annoying

Dexifehatz · 28/10/2011 16:00

What on earth is the 'valid' reason that the poster who uses it give?

worraliberty · 28/10/2011 16:02

It is the fact that if a man used a similar term to refer to a woman 99% of you would be spitting feathers but it seems ok with mn regulars that it is ok to objectify a man

I agree with this. 'Sweet story behind it' or not, it's disrespectful in general.

Dee obviously isn't being disrespectful to her DP when she says it and he obviously doesn't take offence...but posting it on a public forum is an entirely different thing.

I knew someone who used to call her DH 'Darling little Mong'...it was an 'in thing' between them but I wouldn't advise her to post that on a public forum and expect no-one to take offence just because she and her DH think it's ok in private.

TheScaryJessie · 28/10/2011 16:03

"Suck it and see". What the hell is that even supposed to mean? It makes my elbow itch.

GuillotinedMaryLacey · 28/10/2011 16:03

I can safely say that if a bloke came on here and gave the reasons that Dee gives for calling his partner womanshape, I would not give one tiny toss. In fact, I don't give a tiny toss anyway.

I find hubby and preggers far more vomit inducing and they're so much more widespread, I have to deal with them far more often than you have to deal with manshape.

fuzzynavel · 28/10/2011 16:03

I personally cringe at the name "Nigel" but hey, it's a me thing. Grin
